Description

Process for the production of a light tanning agent. The subject matter of the present additional patent is a process for the production of a lightfast tanning agent, characterized in that a diogyphenyl cresyl sulfonic acid-containing diogyphenyl cresyl sulfone mixture, made from raw cresol and phenol, with urea and formaldehyde in an acidic solution under <B> 50 '</B> condensed - where at least 2 molecules of formaldehyde are applied to 1 molecule of urea and the dilution with water is chosen so that

that it can be stirred well - until a water-soluble condensation product is obtained. After adjusting to a weakly acidic reaction, the end product transforms pelt into white, full leather of very good lightfastness.

<I> Example: </I> A. 80 parts of naphthalene monosulphonic acid <B> (100%) </B> in the form of the crude sulphonation mixture, as obtained, for example, by heating 520 parts of naphthalene and 560 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid. for several hours to 160 to 170, 10 parts of 4,4'-diogydiphenyl sulfone, 8 parts of water and 16 parts of formaldehyde 30% are heated to 115 for 2 hours and then adjusted to 150 parts with water.

  B. 200 parts of raw cresol DAB IV are sulfonated with 200 parts of monohydrate for one hour at 105 and the sulfonation water is distilled off in vacuo. In the so received. Mass are slowly sucked in 200 parts of phenol under reduced pressure at 1.25 to 130 ° C; then the water of reaction and the excess raw cresol are distilled off.

First 50 parts of the crude cresol sulfonic acid-containing diogyphenyl cresyl sulfone mixture obtained according to B and then a mixture of 40 parts of 30% formaldehyde and 9.75 parts of urea are added to 150 parts of the condensation product prepared according to @A. The easily stirrable mass is condensed at about 40 'until a sample proves to be readily soluble in water, diluted with water and adjusted to tannic acidity with sodium hydroxide solution.

The end product obtained in this way turns pelt into white. full leather of very good lightfastness.
