Le bord de l'âme <I>A,</I> éloigné des saillies <I>B,
Glass support. The present invention relates to a support for glass specially intended for glass roofs, glass roofs and other similar constructions, and comprising a core having two main and secondary stops, spaced apart, one of which is intended to receive the glass, which is held in place by means of a interlocking bar which cooperates with the other stop.
This interlocking bar has a cross section of the general shape of an L and an elasticity such that it can flex to a limited extent during its introduction, one of its members descending from the stopper condaire as it moves away - from the core of the support to the surface of the pane, while its other member, that which engages with the pane, extends towards the web of the support and is of the form of a taper that its internal end projects beyond the edge of the glass and across the plane of the adjacent face of the glass.
In this way, the part of the interlocking bar near the junction of its two members is forced to press on the pane with a force which is produced by the tension resulting from the flexing of the limb engaging with the pane. .
For convenience, the edge of the interlocking bar which engages with the core of the support and which is remote from the pane, will be referred to hereinafter as the "inner edge".
Instead of the interlocking bar having strictly the shape of a <B> L </B> in cross section, the part of this bar which extends from the inner edge to the surface of the glass, cross-sectional view, may be bent or bent by an amount such that the distance enter the straight line connecting, the ends of that part and the point of it furthest from that straight line, is greater than of the distance between the ends of t said part and,
preferably, is of the order of a fifth of this distance. Consequently, the part of the interlocking bar which goes down from the secondary stop to the surface of the window, comprises, seen in cross section, those practically straight portions, one extending from the pane approximately perpendicular to the surface thereof and having a length equal to at least a quarter of the other,
which descends internally to engage the secondary stop.
According to another modification, also in accordance with the present invention, means may be provided which prevent the interlocking bar from moving away from the pane and which provide the part of the interlocking bar engaging with it. the pane tends to move inward, towards the core, while remaining engaged with the face of the pane.
To obtain the result, the core can have a groove whose. open part is directed towards the face of the. window and into which the internal part of the edge of the interlocking bar can be inserted, this part being of corresponding shape.
In all cases, the part of the window support comprising the core and the main and secondary stops can be manufactured in one piece, for example by expulsion through a suitable die.
It is also possible, and in particular in the case of an interlocking bar of the form described in the previous paragraph, or in the case where the core is made of steel, separately form and apply to the core, for example by welding or otherwise, a cap bearing one or more grooves constituting the secondary stop, but this cap, when formed separately, is preferably attached to the factory,
that is to say not in place on the site, and in any case it is fixed to the core before the introduction of the glass.
If desired, the main stops can be provided with elastic gasket pieces, for example held in longitudinal grooves formed in the upper face of these stops.
Various embodiments according to the present invention are shown, by way of example, in the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view partially in section showing one embodiment of a window holder according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a section of another embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a section of yet another embodiment; in both fig. 2 and 3. the interlocking bar is shown fully inserted and being inserted.
Fig. 4 is a cross section of a window holder, the engagement bar of which is of another shape, and FIG. 5 is a cross section of yet another form of the web and the interlocking bar.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the glass support comprises a main part in the form of a beam, for example made of an aluminum alloy,
two main projections B extending laterally from an edge of the web A of this part. The projections B have parts Bl in the form of a rib each constituting a main stop and intended to come into contact with one of the faces of a window C, C1. The edge of the web <I> A, </I> away from the projections <I> B,
</I> has a rib or a rib A ', the lower side of each edge of this rib A1 constituting a secondary stop forming a seat for the internal edge of a nesting bar D of section of the general shape of 'a <B> L,
</B> as shown, and formed of an edastic material, for example a suitable aluminum alloy.
The outer edge of each interlocking bar D is folded inwardly towards the web, as shown at Di, the parts Dl being slightly curved as indicated and arranged so that after placing the inner edge of each bar d 'interlocking in contact with its stop Al,
the outer edge is pressed internally towards the web, the DZ part of the interlocking bar. connecting the arms of the <B> L </B> will be brought into engagement with the adjacent face of the pane C, Cl, tan say that the free edge D8 of this part will extend beyond the edge of the pane through the plane of the adjacent face of the glass,
so as to force the part Dy of the -bar to be pressed firmly and held in engagement with the adjacent face -of the glass.
A protective flange BZ extends from each of the projections B and outwardly beyond the point where the part B1 engages with the glass, but does not come into contact with it.
When the window support is fitted, one of the faces of each window C is first brought into contact with the main stop B '. The internal edge of each interlocking bar D is then engaged with the secondary stop A 'and the external edge of the interlocking bar is then pressed internally towards the core, to occupy the position shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 2 shows a slightly modified embodiment, in which the support is in the form of a beam having a web A \ provided with an extension or a rib A4 whose lower edges A3 constitute the secondary stops. Fig. 2 shows in its right part the interlocking bar during its installation.
In the form of execution shown in FIG. 3, the window support is generally similar to that shown in FIG. 1, but the core E ends in a rib E1 which has curved grooves Ez at its lower surface instead of presenting practically rectangular channels shown in the other figures.
Each of these curved grooves constitutes a secondary stopper forming a seat for the curved inner edge Fl of an interlocking bar F, of cross section of the general shape of an L, as already described.
The support shown in FIG. 3 has, at its lower end, main lateral projections G, each having a part G1 in the form of a rib, to constitute a main stop intended to come into contact with the lower surface of the window,
when the interlocking bars F are in place and this support is also provided with a protective flange Gz similar to the flanges B2 shown in the other figures.
Arms <B> 0 '</B> are provided in addition to members G1 and G2 and are preferably slightly elastic and ribbed at their outer ends, as shown, to engage the undersurface of the glass and to form a dust tight seal therewith. These G3 arms are intended to flex slightly when the F interlocking bars are forced into place,
as a result of the force exerted on the glass by these interlocking bars. Fig. 3 shows the parts in the position they occupy when the left interlocking bar has been inserted and the adjacent arm G3 has flexed, while the right interlocking bar is in. introduction position and his adjacent arm G3 has not yet flexed.
In the embodiment shown in. fig. 4, the window support has a core A 'provided with main stops' B' and a rib or a head As whose lower edges constitute secondary stops. Each of the main stops has a longitudinal groove containing pieces of packing material BB by which the faces of the panes C press on the main stops.
Each interlocking bar has two parts, one extending from the marginal portion H towards the face of the pane, while the other (part engaging with the pane) extends towards the core A ' .
The part extending from the marginal portion H towards the face of the pane,. Comprises two parts, in particular a lower part Hl lying practically perpendicular to the face of the pane and of a length between half and two thirds of that of the upper part HZ which rises inward as far as the secondary stop As, as shown.
The other part H3, or part coming into engagement with the pane, is curved as shown, such that its internal marginal part H4, which projects beyond the edge of the pane C,
also extends through the plane .de the key adjacent face of this window. In this way, thanks to the elasticity of the interlocking bar <I> H, Hl, </I> Hz, <I> Hg, </I> H4 and to the curvature of the part Hg, this part H3 constantly tends to pull towards the core .45 the lower end of part Hl, so as to hold the part, of the interlocking bar where parts Hl and Hs meet,
firmly pressed against the glass, with a pressure which is maintained by and which is a function of the tension of the Hg part.
With an interlocking bar of the form shown in FIG. 4, the degree of bending that can be given to the parts H 'and H2, and consequently the distance at which their edges can approach one another, is increased compared to the previous embodiments. described.
Yet another embodiment is shown in FIG. 5, in which the core <I> A '</I> has on each side a groove <I> A "</I>, the opening of which is directed towards the face of the pane C.
The internal marginal part K 'of the interlocking bar K is introduced into this groove, so that the reaction between the marginal part K' and the sides of the. groove, on the one hand, and between the part Ka coming into engagement with the pane and the adjacent face of the pane C ,, on the other hand, is such that the interlocking bar must flex and thus presses elastically on the adjacent face of the glass. The grooves A1 'are shown formed in a projection A2 in the form of a rib, extending along the core.
The groove is of an appreciable depth so as to react on the internal marginal part K1 of the interlocking bar. The -4T1 grooves can have parallel sides, the sides of the grooves being parallel to the plane of the web, and the core as well as its stops and its grooves can be in one piece, for example by manufacturing them by expulsion, as shown in the drawing, or, more particularly when the core is made of steel,
the cap can be formed separately and applied to the core by welding so as to form with the core the grooves A'1 to receive the upper marginal parts K 'of the interlocking bars.
In the construction described last, the internal marginal part K 'of the interlocking bar is not only prevented from moving away from the stop as in the embodiments already described, but the bar is kept elastically in contact. with the face of the glass thanks to the way in which the internal marginal part is held.
