Glazing support bar. The present invention relates to a glazing support bar of the type comprising a core having transversely spaced apart stops which extend longitudinally and are produced with said core, the edge of the glass being held between one of these stops and a strip. cover which rests on the outer surface of the glass.
Heretofore, the covering strip which cooperated with the upper stops (the core included an elastic member arranged so as to flex during its introduction or removal. The object of the present invention is to provide a bar. A glazing support of the type mentioned above, in which all parts, including the cover strip, are formed of a similar material, so as to eliminate the use of an elastic cover strip.
In the glazing support bar according to the invention, the core comprises a retaining channel, also manufactured with it, disposed between the upper and lower stops and each removable covering strip comprises an approximately vertical branch with a part extending laterally, arranged so as to come to rest on the outer surface of the lens, the lower edge of the vertical branch being provided to engage in the aforesaid channel, while the upper edge of said vertical branch is retained by the upper stop which is deformed.
Preferably, a stopper, for example having the shape of a step or a rib, is formed in each cover strip to cooperate with the end of a deforming tool by means of which the upper stop can be deformed. .
In addition, the core with its stops and the retaining channels as well as the covering strip can be easily formed by press-stamping an aluminum alloy or other suitable alloy, the retaining channel being of preferably located approximately in the plane of the glass.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the support bar which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a cross section of the core with its stops and retaining channels.
Fig. 2 is a cross section of a cover strip.
Fig. 3 shows the method of assembling and locking the cover strip in position.
In the illustrated embodiment, the support bar which is easily formed by press-stamping an aluminum alloy comprises a core A with a thickened head A ', a pair of lower stops A' on each side. of the core, provided to engage the lower surface of the lens, and a pair of upper stops A 'at a suitable distance from the lower stops.
A pair of retaining channels A 'are formed on the web A between the upper and lower stops A' respectively A2.
The covering strip as shown in FIG. 2 comprises an approximately vertical part B and a laterally extending part Bt, provided to come to rest on the outer surface of the lens indicated in FIG. 3, at C. Each covering strip also comprises a stopper having the shape of an edge or step B2, the purpose of which will be described later.
By assembling the parts of the glazing support bar after the glass has been placed in place, so that its lower surface is supported by the lower stop A2, the cover strip is brought into position with the lower edge. of its vertical branch <I> B </I> extending into the channel <I> A '</I> and the upper edge of this branch being tight against the web A.
A tool indicated at D in fig. 3 is then introduced at appropriate intervals along the length of the assembly, so that its lower end or heel D 'engages the step B2 and the upper stop A', preferably using a corner designated by E, is deformed by circling it towards the inside, so that it comes into engagement with the upper edge of the vertical branch B,
as shown on the left of fig. 3, thus blocking the lower edge of branch B in channel A4, the outer edge of part B ', extending laterally being firmly pressed against the upper surface of glass C.
As shown, the central part of branch B can be slightly hollowed out, while the shape and dimensions of this branch are such that its lower edge does not go to the bottom of channel A4.
Corner E; meshed with web A, can be used as a stop to limit and determine the magnitude of the deformation of stop A <B> '</B> by tool D. The tool itself can present a appropriate stop for this purpose.
If the assembly is disassembled for the purpose of lifting the glass, a suitable tool can be used to lift outwardly the deformed parts of the upper stops A 'and, as shown, a step is suitably formed in the edge of each upper stop, so as to leave part of this edge always exposed on which a tool can act.
If desired, the upper edge of the vertical branch B can be inclined, as shown at B ', to give a slight wedging action when the upper stop A' engages this edge.
It will be appreciated that all parts of the glazing support bar described can be made by press-stamping or the like, so that the same material can be used for the bar and for the cover strips.
The type of tool used to deform the upper stops can naturally vary and in some cases a pincer type tool can be used for this purpose.
