Description

  Von den in Frage kommenden Verbin  dungen sind nachfolgend eine Anzahl er  wähnt, von denen die meisten bekannt sind;  wo es sich um neue Verbindungen handelt,  lassen sie sich -nach bekannten Verfahren  gewinnen:       4,4'-Dichlor-diphenylsulfon,        4,4'-Dibrom-di-          phenylsulfoi),        4-Chlor-4'-brom-diphenylsulfon,          4,4'-Difluor-diphenylsulfon;    4'-Chlor-dichlor-           benzylsulfon;    3,4 -     Dichlor    -     diphenylsulfon,     3, 4,     4'-Trichlor-diphenylsulfon,    2, 4,     4'-Trichlor-          diphenylsulfon;

          2,2'-4,4'-Tetrachlor-diphenyl-          sulfon,        4-Chlor-diphenylsulfon,        4-Chlor-4'-          methoxy-(oder    auch     4'-äthoxy,        -butoxy,        -amyl-          oxy,        -phenoxy        etc.)-diphenylsulfon,        4,4'-Di-          chlor-3,3'-dioxy-diphenylsulfon.

       4-Chlorphenyl-methylsulfon,4-Chlorphenyl- laurylsulfon, 4-Chlorphenyl-sulfoncarbinol und seine Ester, 3-Nitro-a-4'-chlorphenyl-sulfon- benzylalkohol.

  Process for protecting hair, fur, feathers, fibrous materials and other goods from moth damage. It has been found that halogen-substituted arylsulfone or arylsulfoxide derivatives in which the SO2 or SO bridge connects a halogenated aryl radical with the radicals R or SR, in which R can be aryl, aralkyl or alkyl and where the unbranched or branched ones Aralkyl or the alkyl chains by further atoms or groups of atoms, e.g.

   B. halogen, 0, S, S0, S02, NH, C0, NH-CO etc. substituted or. can be uninterrupted, are excellently suited to permanently protect hair, feathers, fur, fibrous materials and other goods from moth damage. Such an effect of these sulfur derivatives could by no means be foreseen, since it is known that the entry of other oxidized sulfur groups, such as the sulfonic acid group, in aromatic compounds greatly reduces or completely destroys their toxicity.

   Martius yellow (2,4-dinitro-l-naphthol), which is poisonous even in small amounts, is rendered harmless by converting it into sulfonic acid, proof that the sulfone group can completely cancel out the toxic effects of nitro. The entry of other, inherently indifferent acidic groups, too, considerably weakens the physiological effect or completely eliminates it.

  The subject of the present patent is a method for protecting hair, fur, feathers, fibrous materials and other goods from moth damage, according to which organic sulfones with at least one ha logensubstituted aryl radical are used.

  Of the compounds in question, a number are mentioned below, most of which are known; where new compounds are concerned, they can be obtained by known processes: 4,4'-dichloro-diphenylsulphone, 4,4'-dibromo-diphenylsulphone), 4-chloro-4'-bromo-diphenylsulphone, 4 , 4'-difluoro-diphenylsulfone; 4'-chloro-dichlorobenzylsulfone; 3,4-dichloro-diphenylsulphone, 3, 4, 4'-trichloro-diphenylsulphone, 2, 4, 4'-trichloro-diphenylsulphone;

          2,2'-4,4'-tetrachloro-diphenylsulphone, 4-chloro-diphenylsulphone, 4-chloro-4'-methoxy- (or 4'-ethoxy, -butoxy, -amyl-oxy, -phenoxy etc .) - diphenyl sulfone, 4,4'-dichloro-3,3'-dioxy-diphenyl sulfone.

       4-chlorophenyl methyl sulfone, 4-chlorophenyl lauryl sulfone, 4-chlorophenyl sulfone carbinol and its esters, 3-nitro-a-4'-chlorophenyl sulfone benzyl alcohol.

  Even in very low concentrations, the sulfones mentioned are outstandingly suitable for the permanent protection of hair, fur, feathers, fibrous materia lien and other goods against moth damage. Mainly solutions in cheap organic solvents, such as hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, etc. or their mixtures are suitable for use. The substances to be protected can be impregnated by brushing, spraying or dipping.

   These sulfones can also be used in combination with other control and repellant agents that are already known for the same purposes. Example: 2 parts of 4,4'-dichloro-diphenylsulfone are dissolved in 998 parts of alcohol, furs, feathers or fibrous materials are treated by immersion, centrifuged and dried. The goods treated in this way are moth-proof; even more dilute solutions are sufficient, e.g. B. 1% oige to achieve very good protection.

  Instead of 4,4'-dichloro-diphenyl sulfone, other of the compounds mentioned can be used, for. B. 4,4'-dibromodiphenyl sulfone or 4,4'-3-trichlorodiphenyl sulfone.

  Protection for the present process is only claimed to the extent that it is not a purely mechanical finishing of textile fibers that is considered for the textile industry.
