Process for the preparation of ogyphenylaminonaphthalene derivatives. As stated in the main Swiss patent no. 132030 (see also the additional patents for this main patent) who obtain the arylaminonaphthalene derivatives when amino or oxynaphthalene derivatives are treated in the presence of bisulfite lye at higher temperatures with aminooxybenzenes or their core substitution products.
Temperatures of about 100 to 120 'are used, with a reaction time of generally over 24 hours. For example, 2- (4-oxyph-enyl) -aminonaphthalin is produced from 4-amino-1-oxybenzene and 2-oxynaphthalene at a temperature of about 115 to 120 and a reaction time of about 2 7 hours.
American Patent No. 1857541, which corresponds to Swiss Patent No. 132030, also states that the same reaction takes place in 12 hours if the reaction temperature is increased to 140-145. In the implementation on a large scale, however, as has been established, the sodium bisulfite easily decomposes to acid sulfate with sulfur deposition, especially at higher reaction temperatures.
As has now been found, the duration of the reaction can be shortened considerably and the decomposition of the sodium bisulfite largely reduced if neutral sulfite or alkalis from which neutral sulfite can be formed with bisulfite are added to the reaction mixture.
Even small amounts are sufficient for this, generally 10 to 15% of the amount of bisulfite used. This makes it possible to carry out the condensation at significantly higher temperatures, e.g. B. at 155 to 160 ', whereby a further considerable shortening of the reaction time is brought about.
This mode of action of the neutral sul-
