Regulator. The object of the invention is a regulator with diaphragm adjustment controlling a shutter piston of the inlet opening of the fluid to be expanded.
The regulator according to the invention is characterized in that said fluid enters an expansion chamber without passing into the piston, the latter being connected desmodromically to the membrane.
Usually, in fact, the fluid admitted into the expansion chamber passes through grooves or other openings of the piston, which closes the intake opening under the action of the pressure of the diaphragm, but only opens under the pressure. 'action of the direct pressure of the fluid at the place where the sealing takes place, possibly with the help of a spring. It results from this arrangement that the impurities deposited by the fluid block the piston, or even its spring, that no sufficiently powerful means then allows -de to move, in particular in the opening direction, to ensure a good regulator operation.
The regulator according to the invention eliminates these drawbacks because the fluid cannot deposit against the piston and because the membrane not only displaces this latter in the direction of closure, but also pulls it in the direction of the opening.
The accompanying drawing shows two embodiments of the regulator forming the subject of the invention, given by way of examples.
Figs. 1 and 2 are an axial section and a detail section on II-II of FIG. 1 of the first embodiment; Fig. 3 is a partial axial section of the second embodiment.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1. and 2, a body 1 is pierced with a channel 2 for the arrival of non-expanded fluid. This channel meets at a given moment the elastic pellet 3 of a shutter piston 4. The piston is shown in the closed position. In the open position, it allows the fluid to pass into an expansion chamber 5 via a channel 6, the arrangement of which is clear from FIG. 2. Thus, the fluid licks the pellet, but does not pass through the piston, nor can it engage between the latter and the cylinder to cause deposits therein which could impair the precision of the operation.
The expansion chamber 5 communicates with a nozzle 7 for the outlet of the expanded fluid. It is limited by a membrane 8 subjected to the action of a spring 9, the tension of which can be adjusted by screwing or unscrewing more or less a cap 10, which a screw 11 makes it possible to immobilize. A channel 12 prevents the air located at 13 behind the membrane cannot be compressed or become scarce under the action of the movements of the latter, the freedom of which it would then interfere with.
The center of the membrane is clamped between a partly threaded rod 14 and its nut 15, this rod comprising a groove 16 into which a fork 17 of an elbow lever 18 enters without axial play. A second fork 19 of the other branch of this lever also penetrates without axial play into a groove 20 of the piston 4. The lever 18 rotating around a pivot 21, it can be seen that the piston 4 is obliged to perform in both direction of movements corresponding to the smallest movements of the membrane 8.
Finally, in the embodiment shown, the piston 4 can be brought and held in the closed position by a screw 22, the knurled head 23 of which is accessible from the outside. In this way, the regulator serves at the same time as a valve and is only free to operate if the screw 22 is slightly unscrewed. By blocking the piston 4, it is obvious that the screw 22 also blocks the membrane. On the other hand, and to prevent the pellet 3 from being damaged by excessive tightening by means of this screw, the piston 4 has a flange which limits its closing stroke.
The operation of the regulator shown in fig. 1 and 2 need not be described in detail, the drawing clearly showing that an increase in pressure in the expansion chamber 5 deforms the diaphragm in a direction which produces a closing stroke of the piston 4 , while the lowering of the pressure in the chamber 5 allows the membrane to return to its initial position and to drive the piston 4 in the opening direction.
This first embodiment could be partially modified by replacing the elastic patch 3 by a washer of the same material surrounding a central needle forming part of the piston 4, this needle being intended to close the channel 2 under the action of the pressure transmitted by the rotation of the screw 22. Thus, a slight over-compression of the elastic washer would allow said needle to close the channel 2, thus preventing the fluid to be released from being in constant contact with the elastic material during periods. of non-use of the regulator.
The embodiment according to FIG. 3 is for the most part similar to that which has just been described.
What differs here from the previous embodiment is the arrangement of the locking member of the piston 4 and of the outlet of the expanded fluid, which takes place through this member.
A bush 26 with a drilled bottom is screwed into the body 1, but which can be closed by a cone 27 ending in a part intended to meet the piston 4. The cone advances or retreats in the bush 26, by the fact that it ends rear by a threaded part 28 and that it is possible to rotate it by acting from the outside on a molten ring 29, which allows to drive a piston 30 slightly conical and provided with gaskets as surant a tight seal with the inner wall, of corresponding taper, of the sleeve 26, this piston 30 in turn driving the part 28 by a sort of claw coupling 31. A spring 32 presses the piston 30 into the .douille 26; it leans against a hat 33.
Channels 34, 35, 36 allow the passage of the expanded fluid through the members just described.
The drawing represents the closed position in which there is a double safety, since the piston .4 is in the closed position and the needle 27 also. It should be noted that the piston no longer has a flange limiting its closing stroke, the limitation arising from the fact that the needle 27 is against its seat.
To put this regulator into operation, one acts on the knurled ring 29, so as to rotate the piston 30 and thus cause the withdrawal of the needle and the release of the piston 4. If now, as a result of any defect, the The pressure becomes too great on the reduced pressure side, the fluid would displace the piston 30 against the action of its spring 32 and would escape through the slight gap formed at 37. In other words, the pressure reducer shown com carries, therefore, a safety valve,
