Red fluorescent coating material when exposed to radiation. For signaling purposes on roads illuminated by metal vapor discharge tubes, it has been proposed to provide signaling means provided with a red fluorescent coating material. If you illuminate objects colored with one of the usual paints, for example with mercury vapor or sodium vapor discharge tubes, these objects show an undesired color and sometimes no color at all.
When using a red fluorescent coating material, however, these objects show a clearly visible red color under the mentioned irradiation conditions.
Such coating materials are obtained, for example, by dissolving a red fluorescent dye, suitably a rhodamine dye, in a condensation product of phthalic acid and a polyhydric alcohol. The mixture obtained in this way can then be applied to the substrate. The fluorescence is to a certain extent dependent on the nature of the substrate to which the red fluorescent coating material is applied. It is thus possible to improve the fluorescence effect by using a base containing lead chromate.
To achieve adequate fluorescence that meets practical requirements, it is generally desirable to apply the coating material quite thickly. It has been found that under otherwise the same circumstances, a corresponding fluorescent effect can be obtained with a red fluorescent coating material applied in a smaller layer thickness, which consists of a dispersion containing the mentioned lead chromate and a red fluorescent dye.
In this way, it is possible to reduce the application thickness of the coating material, for example to a quarter. If desired, the red fluorescent, lead chromate-containing paint material can be applied to a lead chromate base.
As an embodiment of the invention, a coating material is mentioned which consists of a mixture obtained by dispersing 2.5 g of the dye commercially available under the name "Rhodamine B 500" and 45 g of lead chromate in a solution of 1 kg of a phthalic acid glycerol condensation product is obtained in approximately 1 kg of acetone. This dispersion can then be brushed onto a base.
According to another embodiment, a paint material is produced by dispersing 10 g of the named "Rhodamine B 500" and 90 g of lead chromate in a solution of 2 kg of a polyvinyl acetate condensation product in approximately 2 kg of acetone.
As a base, various Ma materials such. B. wood or metal can be used.
To protect against the effects of the weather, a coating material with the red fluorescent coating according to FIG. Invention Herge made layer with a translucent paint or varnish layer, eg. B. a linseed oil layer, are covered.
