Description
A light metal alloy that can be used as a material for components with sliding movement. The present patent relates to a light metal alloy that can be used as a material for machine parts with sliding movement and consists of aluminum, magnesium and a deliberate addition of iron.
Aluminum-magnesium alloys with a deliberate addition of iron are known per se. They have better mechanical properties than Al-Mg alloys without added iron; in particular, their strength, their density and their smoothness are greater.
Thorough tests on the sliding properties of aluminum-3-magnesium alloys have now shown that the sliding properties of these alloys can also be considerably improved by adding a certain amount of iron; In particular, it has been shown that the strength decreases only slightly with increasing temperature (high heat resistance). According to the invention, an alloy which consists of 0.1-10% Mg, 0.5-10% Fe and 99.4-80% Al has proven to be particularly advantageous in this respect.
Such an alloy is ideally suited as a material for machine parts with sliding movement, eg. B. for bearing shells, guides, pistons and the like, especially if a high specific load capacity of these parts is required.
As a result of the relatively great flexibility of the material of the composition mentioned, the sen use for machine parts with sliding tender movement mainly offers great advantages when these machine parts should also have a certain amount, as z. B. belwellen of engines is required for basic bearings for the cure. For example, an alloy of around 0.5% Mg, 6% Fe and 9.8.5% A1 has proven to be particularly effective as a plain bearing material in such difficult cases.
