Description
Method for applying characters, in particular letters, to gemstones. The application of characters on gemstones, such as whole and semi-precious stones and the like, has so far been carried out in such a way that these characters were engraved or cut. These methods had the disadvantage that dirt settles in the stone's recess, so that the piece of jewelery experiences an undesirable impairment.
The invention now relates to a method for applying characters, in particular letters, to gemstones, through which this disadvantage is to be eliminated in that the stone is provided by grinding with the desired characters adapted facets and those boundary lines of adjacent facets that Resulting characters, broadened by matt finish.
The method will now be explained with reference to two examples of execution shown in the drawing. It shows Fig. 1 a gem with a letter, and Fig. 2 such a with a letter U, each in plan view.
The process can now be carried out with reference to these stones in such a way that one first respects the letter E. U adapted facets (grinding surfaces) a grinds the stone and then those delimitation lines b adjacent facets that result in the character, widened by matt grinding to narrow surfaces c, so that the letter E respectively. U results.
Apart from the resulting, essentially smooth surface of the character form, there are only slight additional costs for attaching the characters beyond the normal grinding process, so that the new process represents a technical advance compared to the familiar, quite apart from the new ornamental Effect of the stones cut in this way.
