Description
Process for the preparation of a water-soluble azo dye. It has been found that the coloring properties of chromable azo dyes can be derived from the general formula:
EMI0001.0007
where N. = hydrogen, alkyl or halogen, Y = hydrogen, Z = hydrogen, alkyl, halogen or the sulfonic acid group can be improved significantly if these dyes or their chromium complex compounds are treated with sulfonating agents.
Compared to the starting materials, the new dyes obtainable in this way are considerably more easily soluble, clearer in color and in some cases not inconsiderably greener.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a water-soluble azo dye. It is characterized by the fact that one can meet the Swiss patent claim. Main patent no. 166221 available dye treated with a sulfonating agent until a sample of the product is soluble in acidic water.
When dried, the new dye is a yellow powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with an orange-red color. The dye dyes wool when it is treated with chromium salts in clear, greenish yellow tones.
Example: 50 parts by weight of the after Switzerland. Main patent no. 166221 available chromium complex compound of the dye from 4-amino-1-oxyberrzene-2-carboxylic acid and salicylic acid are introduced into 175 parts by weight of monohydrate at normal temperature with stirring. After three hours of heating to 130-135 C, it is poured onto ice.
The precipitate is filtered off with suction, washed free of chromium with sodium chloride solution, taken up in soda solution and the dye salt is salted out with sodium chloride. Dried, it is a yellow powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with an orange-red color. When treated with chromium salts, the dye dyes wool in clear, greenish yellow tones.
