Process for the preparation of the sodium salt of a naphthalene sulfoperic acid. The main patent describes a process for preparing the sodium salt of a naphthalene sulfoperic acid, characterized in that propylnaphthalene sulfonic acid, which can be obtained by introducing propylene gas into molten naphthalene and sulfurizing the product obtained, is reacted with sodium peroxide.
The present invention now relates to a method for preparing the sodium salt of a naphthalene sulfoperic acid, characterized in that butynaphthalene sulfonic acid, which can be obtained by condensation of P-naphthalene sulfonic acid with normal butyl alcohol in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, is reacted with sodium peroxide brings. It is advantageous to work in the presence of a stabilizer.
The new sodium normal-butylnaphthalenesulfopersaure thus obtained is a white powder which is easily soluble in water, the aqueous solutions of which give off the active oxygen only slowly even when standing for days; provided that no oxidizable substances are present. It is particularly suitable as a bleaching, disinfecting and oxidizing agent for a wide variety of purposes, both for bleaching fibers of all kinds, as well as for oxidizing and disinfecting.
Example: 528 grams of butylnaphthalene sulfonic acid, produced by condensation of P-naphthalene sulfonic acid with normal butyl alcohol in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, are made into a paste with an aqueous solution of 23 grams of sodium pyrophosphate. 90 grams of sodium peroxide and 100 grams of hydrogen peroxide of 35 percent by weight are introduced into this aqueous suspension with good cooling.
After the reaction has ended, the mixture is carefully evaporated to dryness in vacuo and a white powder is obtained which consists of sodium normal butylnaphthalene sulfopersate and has a content of 6% active oxygen.
