Device for the. measurement of time differences. The object of the invention is a device allowing the measurement of time differences by the use of a split split-seconds chronograph, the hands of which can freely move in the usual direction, that is to say direct, either in a retrograde direction, that is to say counterclockwise.
The use of such a chronograph is particularly useful for adjusting the firing of bombardments by plane, for all measurements of speed differences and for all possible uses of the split-second split-seconds hand running in an anti-clockwise direction. .
The device according to the invention has two wheels intended to cooperate with the group of usual wheels of a chronograph. One of said wheels, in constant mesh with the driving wheel, can be brought into engagement, either directly or by interposition of the second wheel, with the chronograph wheel, thus allowing control in one direction or the other. of the chronograph hand, as well as of a split-seconds hand which is itself provided with the usual immobilization mechanism operating whatever the direction of travel of this split-seconds hand.
In the appended drawing which shows, by way of example and partially, a chronograph mechanism with one embodiment of the device according to the invention, FIG. 1 shows a front view of the mechanism showing the control of the chronograph; Fig. 2 is a view of the rattrapante im mobilization mechanism.
The driving wheel 1, wheel on the chronograph field, which receives its movement from the driving spring by an appropriate mechanism, not shown, is in constant mesh with a wheel 2, intermediate chronograph wheel, carried by a part 23 made of steel and having the shape of a square. The small side of the square 23 pivots around the fixed point 24 but, at the same time, the top of this square slides in the slide 25 i on the other hand, the rocker 3, which is placed above the square 23, is integral with this bracket by means of the screw 4 pivoting and the pivot axis of the wheel 2 carried by the large side of the bracket 23,
so that all the crew thus formed is actuated by the column ratchet 6 in contact with a curved arm 5 of the lever 3 subjected to the action of a spring 7. The part 23 pivots around the axis 24 when the arm 5 of the rocker 3 is actuated by the column ratchet 6 at the same time as its top guided by the slide 25 advances or retreats, therefore driving the wheel 2 which engages either with the chronograph center wheel 8 for direct control of this wheel 8 by wheel 2 in order to obtain the direct direction of rotation of the usual needle and of the split-seconds hand not shown, or with a chronograph wheel 9.
This wheel is mounted on a movable bridge 10 on which a stop 28 remains, by means of a spring 13, in contact with one of the branches of a square 27 pivoting at 29, the other branch of this square 27 being actuated by column ratchet 6 at the same time as lever 3 to bring wheel 9 into engagement with both wheel 2 and with center wheel 8.
The immobilization of the split-second is obtained by a mechanism shown in fig. 2 and comprising a flyback wheel 14 integral with the flyback and placed between the large branches 15 and 16 of the flyback clamp articulated on the axis 17, while the other two branches 18 and 1.9 of the clip are applied by a spring not shown on a ratchet with columns for split-second stopper 20 controlled by an appropriate mechanism not visible in the drawing.
The various commands are carried out by means of usual push-buttons 21, 22 visible in FIG. 1 and which control the rotation of the column ratchets 6 and 20 in the usual manner by means of appropriate ratchets and ratchets. It is understood that the driving wheel 1 rotates in the usual direction therefore direct clockwise and that it remains in constant mesh with the wheel 2, intermediate chronograph, which, therefore, rotates in the opposite direction. Clockwise.
If the balance is not stationary (by the left side pusher 21), wheels 1 and 2 run and the first push of the pusher on the crown starts the four wheels 1, 2, 8 and 9.
If the balance is stationary, the first push of the pusher also releases the balance and the four wheels roll as in the first case.
The second blow exerted on the pusher disengages the wheel 2 from the wheel 8 and engages this wheel 2, which always runs in the opposite direction, with the return wheel 9; this wheel 9 therefore runs at this moment in the direct direction and, as it has remained in contact with the wheel 8 when the wheel 2 has engaged it, it turns this wheel 8 in the opposite direction.
The third push of the push-button causes the usual quick return to zero function of the hands.
The application of this special chronograph to aircraft bombardment also requires a so-called two-directional sight, the chronograph then only having to determine the moment when, after two sights, the bomb must be released to reach the target. goal, moment which is precisely that which coincides with the passage of the needle in retrograde mode in front of a movable reference mark which moves on the dial according to the altitude or is made the release of the bomb.
The purpose of adding a rattrapante to the device is to use this chronograph as an ordinary chronograph for any time measurement, the reading being done by stopping the rattrapante (push-piece 22 on the right) without disturbing the running of the clock. needle which is used to adjust the bombardment.
The reversing mechanism - as well as its control could obviously have other forms and arrangements., As well as the control for immobilizing the rat-trap. - The invention applies to clockwork mechanisms of all sizes and for all applications.
