Das dem vom Nocken k betätigten Ende gegenüberliegenden Ende des Hebels<I>m</I> trägt ein Kontaktstück<I>p,</I> wel ches zwischen nachgiebigen, ortsfesten Kon takten<I>q, q'</I> spielen kann.
So z.
\ 'Learn how to carry out an electrical spark discharge. In ordinary high-voltage ignition devices with ignition coils, a high-voltage discharge is produced by interrupting - the circuit of the primary winding of the ignition coil at the moment in which the primary current has reached its maximum value, and the interruption is maintained until they all collapse The energy released by the magnetic field has been destroyed by the discharge through the spark gaps on the spark plugs.
When the primary circuit is closed, the primary current increases continuously until the primary circuit is interrupted, whereupon the primary current quickly falls to zero and only rises again when the next functional cycle begins with the primary circuit being closed again.
The energy available in the discharge spark depends on the peak value of the secondary voltage induced when the primary current is interrupted, which is practically proportional to the size of the primary current at the moment of the interruption.
When the frequency of these successive power closures and interruptions increases, the peak value of the secondary voltage generated, and thus that of the secondary current generated, decrease more and more because the time available between the establishment of contact and the interruption for the primary current to increase and therefore the intensity of the primary current decreases at the moment of the interruption.
For the sake of a high degree of efficiency in the sense of avoiding useless energy loss, especially at high engine speeds, it has long been found that the time the interruption point in the primary circuit is kept open should not significantly exceed the duration of the spark discharge in order for the To build up the primary current as long as possible.
If the primary circuit is closed after the discharge has ceased, the current in the primary circuit increases according to the well-known law:
EMI0002.0004
where: L, the self-induction coefficient of the primary circuit, B the resistance of the primary circuit, i the primary current, E the voltage of the primary battery, t the time calculated from the moment the primary circuit was closed, e the basic number of the Napierian logarithms.
Numerous methods have been proposed and used in order to increase the time available for increasing the primary current by closing the primary current circuit as soon as possible after the secondary discharge has ceased.
Examples of such methods and devices are: 1. Appropriate design of the cam lift surfaces.
2. Use of two breakers provided with suitably formed cams, working in such a mutual phase relationship, each of which interrupts the circuit independently of the other in such a way that the discharges first alternately through one breaker and then through the other be brought. Such a device enables the breaker cam to be driven at half the speed that a single breaker would have to have.
3. A device with two breakers connected in parallel, one of which is offset with respect to the other so that when one breaker opens, the primary circuit remains closed until the other breaker <B> - </ B > <U> also </U> opens. When this occurs, the first breaker begins to close. By correctly setting the actuating moments of the two breakers, the circuit can be closed again at any desired time after it has been opened.
With this system, it is particularly important to point out that the desired point in time for closing the circuit takes place as soon as possible after completion of the discharge, but in no case during the duration of the discharge itself. Prior to the present invention, no one has found that a significant benefit can be obtained by closing the primary circuit for the duration of the discharge itself.
When the primary circuit is closed for the duration of the discharge, the primary current is built up in two stages after closing the primary circuit, of which the second stage takes place in accordance with the law mentioned above.
However, it can be shown that the initial part of the build-up, i.e. until the secondary current has sunk to zero, takes place according to the following law:
EMI0002.0040
In this formula: i is the primary current, E is the voltage of the primary battery, R is the resistance of the primary circuit, e2 is the potential difference that is present in the spark gap immediately after a spark is formed, 1e. The coupling coefficient,
EMI0002.0047
L, the self-induction coefficient of the primary circuit,
L, the self-induction coefficient of the secondary circuit, t the time calculated from the moment in which the primary circuit was closed, e the base number of the Napierian logarithms.
The above equation expresses an extraordinarily high ratio, because at the moment the contact is made the secondary circuit is still short-circuited by the discharge, and thus almost complete transfer of the remaining electromagnetic energy to the primary circuit is actually achieved when the primary circuit is established.
In the following, the current portion of the spark through which the energy in the self-capacitance of the secondary winding is destroyed is referred to as the capacity component, while that current portion of the discharge through which the primary electromagnetic energy transmitted to the secondary side is destroyed is inductance - is called a component.
We have found that the efficiency of the discharge depends on the peak value of the first oscillation of the inductance component. This value determines the ignitability of the spark. As a result, of the entire induction coil secondary discharge, only the first half oscillation of the inductance component is really required. The remaining part of the inductance component of the discharge not only serves no useful purpose but causes unnecessary waste of energy.
This in turn causes excessive burning and unnecessary heating of the candle tips, which in turn gives rise to pre-ignition.
The method for performing an electrical spark discharge according to the present invention consists in that the primary circuit is opened at a point in time at which the primary current has reached its greatest possible intensity and in the course of the secondary discharge in the range of the 3lagimalwert of the first half of the first Oscillation of the inductance component is closed again.
The device for carrying out this method expediently has a contact manufacturer and a contact breaker for monitoring the primary circuit, the arrangement being made so that the moment the primary circuit is closed in operation, the device can be monitored in order to allow lichen to be able to vary the total duration of the secondary discharge time as desired.
The drawing illustrates schematically exemplary embodiments of the device used for executing the method.
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of a double contact breaker for Ausfüh tion of the method according to the invention; Fig. 2 shows an embodiment with cam and changeover contact; Fig. A shows an embodiment of an automatic adjusting device, and Fig. 4 shows a further embodiment of the contact device.
The embodiment shown in Fig. 1 of the interrupter device has two in the primary, the primary winding a of the ignition coil and the direct current source b containing circuit in parallel switched on, contact making and breaking devices. These devices have fixed contacts c, d and movable contacts e, <I> f </I> and are shunted in the usual way by a capacitance g.
The fixed and movable contacts are each electrically connected to one another. The movable contacts are operated one after the other by a cam h which is driven, for example, by an internal combustion engine, the ignition of which is effected with the aid of the secondary winding j.
The device is made in such a way that when the cam is rotated in the sense of the arrow drawn, the contact pair e. e and only then the pair <I> d, f </I> opens, whereby the primary circuit is now interrupted. This circuit is then closed again by closing the first pair of contacts e, e.
The duration of the interruption of the primary circuit is expediently chosen so that a predetermined duration of the secondary flow is achieved at a predetermined speed.
In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the cam k, which acts on a pivot n rotatable under the tension of a spring a lever m, the Be strive to always take the position shown in Fig. 2 ment. The end of the lever <I> m </I> opposite the end actuated by the cam k carries a contact piece <I> p, </I> wel ches between flexible, stationary contacts <I> q, q '</I> can play.
When the cam k rotates during operation, the lever is rotated and when the latter is rotated in each case, the either via the contacts <I> q </I> and <I> p </I> or < I> q '</I> and p closed circuit for a short time, which is dependent on the movement of the contact e from <I> q </I> to <I> q' </I> or from <I> q '</I> after <I> q </I> depends on the necessary time.
In the examples described above, a change in the frequency of the successive switching operations obviously affects a change in the time interval between the interruption and restoration of the primary circuit. So z. B. can at a frequency that is significantly lower than the one for which the device is set in consideration of the achievement of the highest ignition power, the reclosing of the primary circuit only take place if a short period of time after the fall of the Primary current has elapsed to zero.
It is therefore advisable to provide automatic means which maintain a certain constant duration of the interruption of the primary circuit independent of the frequency of the successive circuit closings and circuit interruptions.
A suitable means for this purpose is shown in Fig. 3, where r and s are two cam disks, of which the disk r is fixed on the shaft t and the disk s is rotatably seated on the shaft t. The cam disk s has a slot u into which a pin <I> v </I> of a shaft zv carrying a collar <I> x </I> engages and which shaft can be displaced in an axial bore of the shaft t.
The collar x and thus the shaft w is displaced in the axial direction by two angular levers rotatable about pin z when these levers are driven by the centrifugal force of the two. be actuated by a spring 3 against each other pulled balls 2.
In the embodiment of FIG. 4, two cams 10 and 11 are seen before and are driven so that they rotate at the same speed. An arm 12 is actuated by the cam 11 and carries between fixed, mitein other electrically connected contact parts 14, 15 movable contact parts 13, 13I.
In the position shown, the circuit running over the lines 17 and 18 is closed by the contact parts 14 and 13. When the undercut disc 11 rotates, the contact 13, 14 is opened and the contact part <B> 13 '</B> falls under the spring 16 onto the contact part 15, whereby the circuit between the moment of opening of the contact 13, 14 and the closing of the contact 13I, 15 was interrupted for a very short period of time.
With further rotation of the cam disks, the contact parts 15 and 13 'are pushed up together by the disk 10 until the contact part 13 comes into contact with the contact part 14, where the circuit remains closed in the meantime. At a certain moment ge then equips the disc 10, the contact part 15 to move down, so that the contact 13I, 15 is opened; However, the contact part 13 remains in contact with the contact part 14 due to the Sciieilie 11. so that the circuit is not interrupted.
With this arrangement, the length of time during which the circuit is open is independent of the speed of rotation of the disks.
In the coil ignition systems operating according to the method according to the present invention, the peak value of the secondary current can be at a constant level regardless of the frequency of the successive current closures from interruptions. As a result, an ignition error caused by a sooty spark plug is no greater at high speeds than at low speeds.
In existing systems, when the circuit is broken, the curve of the falls rapidly to zero and remains at zero until the circuit is restored.
If existing designs of contact devices, equipped with a single pair of contacts or two such synchronously working pairs of contacts, as are usually used for ignition, are set so that they result in the short interruption period, which according to the invention required it was found that there is a tendency to failure due to the arc and the fact that the contacts close in an ionized atmosphere.
For this reason, it is advantageous, as shown in the examples described, to provide two pairs of contacts, one for opening and the other for closing the circuit.
