La fig. 7 est une coupe faite suivant la ligne 1-1 de la fig. 9 et montre une extré mité du bras .de renfort mobile angulaire- ment, ainsi que la façon de le relier à une barre rigide s'étendant transversalement par rapport au châssis; La fi-. 8 est une vue en bout en coupe partielle d'un des demi-essieux articulés et montre le mode de liaison d'une extrémité de la pièce de renfort au support de la roue ar rière;

En se reportant aux fig. 4 ,à 8, on voit que 1 désigne un moteur vertical formant partie du bloc moteur D, d2 désigne l'enve loppe renfermant le volant, d' l'embrayage, d$ un carter renfermant le différentiel, et d; la boîte des vitesses;
Road motor vehicle. The present invention relates to a road motor vehicle in which the engine -is disposed entirely behind the axis of the rear wheels. A vehicle according to the invention comprises: A chassis whose side members extend behind the axis of the rear wheels by a length at least equal to the length of the engine, an engine block comprising the engine, the clutch , the gearbox and the differential, and removably attached to the chassis side members by means of members carried by the latter, so that the engine is located behind the axis of the rear wheels,
support members for the chassis comprising a pair of rear wheels comprising articulated half-axles and the main supports of which are interconnected by a rigid bar extending transversely to the side members of the chassis, springs ensuring an elastic mounting between these main supports and the frame, and said support members and the engine block being mechanically connected to each other by articulated half-axles, which are connected to the differential by removable couplings, in order to be able to remove the engine block from the frame without need to disassemble the support members, such as for example the rear wheels, springs or other components.
Said rigid bar can directly connect the wheel supports to one another, in which case it is movable relative to the side members of the frame, the springs being interposed between this rigid bar and said members carried by the frame.
The rigid bar can also be fixed to the frame members and be connected indirectly to the wheel supports by reinforcing arms which carry the wheel supports at one of their ends and can rotate on the. rigid bar, the springs being interposed between the wheel supports and said members carried by the frame. In the accompanying drawing are shown, by way of example, various embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a first embodiment of a schematic elevation of a road motor vehicle of tapered shape, according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of FIG. 1, some non-essential features being omitted; Fig. 3 is an end view in section, the section being taken through the axis of the rear wheels; Fig. 4 is a plan view of the rear end of another variant of the vehicle, in which angularly movable reinforcing pieces are used;
Fig. 5 is a view corresponding to FIG. 4, and shows the frame, the engine block being removed from it; Fig. 6 represents the engine block .déta ché of the chassis shown in fig. 4; The fi-. 7, 8 and 9 are detailed views showing more clearly the construction of the angularly movable reinforcing parts and of the articulated half-axles. In this embodiment of the invention, detachable flanges serving as couplings are provided on the articulated half-axles, so as to facilitate removal of the engine block.
In these three figures, only the parts necessary for understanding the invention have been shown, and the non-essential parts have been omitted in order to show more clearly other parts.
Fig. 7 is a section taken along line 1-1 of FIG. 9 and shows one end of the angularly movable reinforcing arm, as well as the manner of connecting it to a rigid bar extending transversely to the frame; The fi-. 8 is an end view in partial section of one of the articulated half-axles and shows the method of connecting one end of the reinforcing part to the support of the rear wheel;
Fig. 9 is a view taken looking in the direction of arrow 9 in FIG. 8 and shows how the reinforcing piece is connected at one end to the wheel support, and at its other end, to the rigid transverse bar connecting together the frame members.
Figs. 10, 11 and 12 show another embodiment of the object of the invention, in which said rigid bar directly links the wheel supports without the intermediary of reinforcing arms as shown in fig. 7, 8 and 9. FIG. 10 is a plan view of the rear part of the vehicle.
Fig. 11 is an end view of the rear part of the vehicle, the part being on the left side of the center line of FIG. 11 being a partial section taken with a rearward view and through line 11-11 of FIG. 12, and the view on the right side of the center line of FIG. 11 being a partial section taken looking forward and through line 12-12 of FIG. 12. FIG. 12 is a view taken looking in the direction of arrow 12 in FIG. 11.
Referring to fig. 1, 2 and 3, it can be seen that A designates the tapered body of the vehicle, B, B the rear wheels and B @, B 'the front wheels. The steering wheel, is signed by C, and D is the engine block positioned 0 at the rear of the vehicle. In this embodiment of the invention, said engine block comprises a motor. eight cylinders of the horizontal type with opposed cylinders, the engine being placed entirely behind the .x axis.
rear wheels b, b and comprises a part <I> d </I> placed on the left and a part of placed on the right, the crank case d being placed between parts d and d of the engine. This type of engine has a low center of gravity and a short length resulting in a short overhang behind the rear wheel axle. The same applies to V-motors. The casing d encloses the flywheel, and the casing d3 encloses the worm, the helical toothed gear wheel and the differential.
d4 designates the gearbox and cd5 the clutch. The engine is controlled from the gearbox and the clutch via a hollow worm shaft, which engages with the helical gear wheel which operates the differential. The control between the engine and the clutch can be a joint control, for example a ball joint. e, e denote shaft ends extending laterally from the differential and forming part of the two articulated half axles el, el, each of which comprises two universal joints e ', e2 serving as removable couplings.
In this embodiment of the invention, each rear wheel may include separate springs, or these wheels may be independently suspended. The engine block D can be connected to the frame in any suitable manner: for example, a transverse tubular part (not shown) can be provided extending between the frame members and connecting them together, and it is also possible to provide pendant suspension members. not shown attached at their upper ends to said tubular part, and at their lower ends, to. supports d6 presented by the casing or housing of the worm and differential.
In this mode of support da engine block, one can use or not the cross or rigid bar provided or not with reinforcing parts described in more detail below with reference to other embodiments of the invention shown in figs. 4 to 12.
F designates the clutch control rod, Fl the clutch pedal and G, G the gear change rods with; their selector forks, Gl, Gl and the 1 <B> e </B> shift lever G2. <I> H </I> designates the radiator and Hl. 11l action fans born using belts or chains Hz, H \. The side members of the chassis (not shown) extend behind the axis of the rear wheels by a length at least equal to the length of the engine.
Referring to fig. 4, to 8, it can be seen that 1 designates a vertical motor forming part of the engine block D, d2 designates the casing enclosing the flywheel, the clutch, a housing enclosing the differential, and d; the gearbox;
e, e denote the ends of shafts extending from the differential, and e2, e2 the universal joints forming part of the articulated half-axles el, el, playing at the same time the role of couplings demon tables. e3 (fig. 8) denotes a coupling flange, with which each of the articulated half-axles can also be fitted, if desired.
B, B designates the rear wheels, and Al, Al the frame members which extend behind the axis of the rear wheels by a length at least equal to the length of the engine. AZ designates a rear transverse part and A 'a rigid front transverse bar extending between the side members Al, A' of the frame and K, K are the reinforcing parts.
The engine block has, at its rear end, flanges Dl, Dl and, at its front end, flanges D ', D2. By removing the bolts D ', D3 of said flanges and also unbolting one or the other of the universal joints e2 provided on each of the half-axles, or by unbolting the coupling flange e3 shown in fig. 8, the whole engine block can be easily removed from the frame as shown in fig. 5 and 6.
Referring more particularly to FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, it can be seen that each reinforcing arm K is attached to one end K2, to the wheel support K4, and that at its other end it is mounted, so as to be able to turn, on the transverse bar A3 . using a two-part sleeve Kl, the parts of which are connected together by bolts k,
1st. A4 designates a bearing and <I> A '</I> a flange presented by the transverse part A3 and arranged between the sleeve Kl and the spar Al. The wheel support K4 is fixed to the springs <I> L </ I > by bolts <I> 1, l </I> and said wheel support supports, by means of pins <B> II, </B> 11, the brake reinforcement plate M, as well as the fixed hub N N 'denotes a part of the brake drum shown in full on the right side of the figure. 11.
The same reference letters as those used in Figs. 7 and 8 have been used to designate the elements of the motor unit and the articulated half-axle described with reference to FIGS. 10, 11 and 12.
However, in this embodiment of the invention, a bar between rod 0 is used which directly connects the wheel supports without the intermediary of reinforcing parts and the engine block is bolted, at its front end, on a cross member A3. , as described with reference to fig. 7, 8 and 9.
The spacer bar 0 is fixed by brazing, or the like, in a socket 0 'integral with the wheel support K4. The wheel carrier is attached to the springs <I> L, L </I> by pins <I> 1, 1, </I> - so that the weight of the vehicle is carried directly by the wheel carrier g4 , the spacer shaft 0 being simply used to resist the bending moment and to control the movement of the springs <I> L, L. </I> The wheel support K4 carries, by means of pins <I> 1 ' ,
</I> the reinforcement plate ltl and the fixed hub <I> N. </I> The fixed hub carries the bearings P and P1. The bearing P carries the weight of the vehicle via the rotating hub Q, the pins R, R and the wheels J, CJ, only part of which is shown in these figures. The purpose of the bearing P is also to prevent the wheel from floating under the action of the motor shaft T, to which the rotary hub Q is fixed by the key T ′ and the nut T2. The R.
R while serving as the attachment device for the detachable wheel hub and transmitting the driving torque to it also serve to secure the brake drum N 'to the rotary means Q.
The carcass of the vehicle is preferably tapered in shape, and a removable or hinged hinged cover or hood is provided at the rear of the vehicle, so that the engine can be easily accessed.
Each wheel of the vehicle may have an independent brake and an independent mudguard, and the front wheels may be further apart than the rear wheels. In the latter case, the superstructure of the car can cover the rear wheels, thus avoiding the need for separate mudguards.
As the height of the engine block is lower when using a horizontal engine than is the case with a vertical engine, the use of a horizontal engine makes it possible to provide a window or rear bay much larger than with a vertical engine, which is of great importance in the case where the body of the vehicle has a fused shape, then the height. useful is quite restricted.
In addition, the use of a horizontal motor instead of a vertical motor avoids having to modify the tapered shape of the rear of the vehicle.
It is also understood that in all the embodiments of the invention, the control is effected from the engine to the axis of the rear wheels in a horizontal plane - or in principle horizontal, so as to keep the center of gravity low and to reduce the rolling movement to a minimum.
In cases where the engine is placed on one side of the rear wheel axle and the gearbox on the other spoiled, the protruding part out, the rear of the vehicle is also minimized.
