<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
charpente du véhicule deux ressorts ordinsires à lames, a'est- à-dire un de chaque cote du véhicule, qui sont attachée par leurs bouts au châssis ou charpente de manière appropriée quel- conque; sur la partie centrale de ces ressorts, on fixe un ca- dre ou pièce coulée qui se dispose en travers du châssis; ce cadre ou pièce coulée est construit de manière à inclure ou porter le mécanisme différentiel pour la paire principale de roues motrices et les essieux de ces roues;

En relation avec la paire postérieure de roues I,I, on fait usage .d'une boite ou accessoire qui est conçu soue for- me de boîte J pour porter le mécanisme de commande (ou si c'est nécessaire, le mécanisme différentiel), avec des pa- liers d'essieux K,K dans lesquels est ou sont portés l'es- sieu arrière L ou les essieux arrière respectivement; l'es- sieu L porte un rebord L1 sur lequel la roue R est fixée par des boulons;

J
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Improvements to mechanically propelled vehicles".
The present intention refers to this category of mechanically propelled vehicles known as "rigid six-wheel vehicles"; in this case, the control (generally the rear wheels) comprises two pairs of wheels arranged one next to the other; its objective is to achieve a flexible mounting or suspension so that the four wheels are always in contact with the wheel or other surface on which they run, despite undulations or uneven terrain, while at the same time time the load on the springs is distributed equally to the four wheels.
According to the invention, it is provided on the frame or
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
vehicle frame two ordinary leaf springs, ie one on each side of the vehicle, which are attached by their ends to the frame or frame in any suitable manner; on the central part of these springs, a frame or casting is fixed which is placed across the frame; this frame or casting is constructed so as to include or support the differential mechanism for the main pair of driving wheels and the axles of these wheels;
it carries a member for admitting and maintaining in rotation the box or the accessories of the other pair of driving wheels, arranged so that axles of the two pairs of wheels can perform a rotational movement with respect to each pair.
The frame or casting and the box or accessories, when assembled, are arranged so that the frame or coolie is fixed to the centers of the springs, midway between the axles of the two pairs of wheels; as a result, the four wheels can perform a vertical up and down movement on the springs. the two pairs of wheels perform a rocking motion with the springs and the rear pair of wheels perform a rotational motion relative to the front pair of wheels, so that in effect a universal motion is obtained.
The control between the two pairs of wheels is effected by appropriate devices such as a bevel gear drive.
The inventor claims to have a pair of wheels outside the chassis or frame as usual and to dispose the other pair of wheels inside the frame or frame *
The invention will be clearly understood by referring to the description which will follow in the light of the example represented by the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a frame or casting bearing the transmission mechanism and the axles with the wheels and showing the position they occupy in the frame or

vehicle frame; the - all and the Mechanism are emotionally linked by a chain.
Fig. 2 is a soup through a differential mechanism operated by pinion and universal coupling.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the device and of a part of the frame to which the latter is applied.
Fig 4 is a side elevational view similar to FIG. 3 indicating the position of the wheels when they roll over uneven ground.
Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of the wheels and a sectional view of a chassis showing an alternate position of the wheels as they roll over uneven terrain.
According to the example shown by the drawings, the inventor constructs the frame A with a protrusion B, B on each side near the rear edge through which and the 'pins B1, B1, the frame A with springs C; in this frame A, more or less against and forward, the box of the differential mechanism D is formed; on each side and on the front are the axle boxes set E, E communicating with the gear box 3 in which the axles F.F of the front pair of wheels G, G are carried. At the center of this frame or casting A and at the rear, a tubular protrusion is formed or provided, H starting from the gear truss D.
In connection with the rear pair of wheels I, I, use is made of a box or accessory which is designed in the form of a box J to carry the control mechanism (or if necessary, the differential mechanism) , with axles K, K in which is or are carried the rear axle L or the rear axles respectively; the axle L carries a flange L1 on which the wheel R is fixed by bolts;
this box or accessory K is constructed or provided with a connection in the form of an M tube extending from the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
box J, which is disposed in the tubular protrusion H of the frame or gear A (but it may also be located on the protrusion H) and is rotatably fixed in or thereon in any suitable manner.
The control mechanism can be of any suitable type and in the mode shown in FIG. 1, it consists of a pinion N formed on a bevel gear: It connected to a box N2 carrying the differential mechanism a, b, c, said box N2 rotating in bearings N3, N4 of the gear box D; this pinion N is actuated by another wheel P actuated in turn by the driving force via a chain Q, fig. 1; however, in fig. 2, the pinion N has been omitted and the bevel gear N1 is actuated by a tapered pinion N5 of a shaft W. However, any other control can be used.
The rear pair of wheels L, L is provided with a bevel wheel R actuated by a smaller bevel pinion 8 carried on one end of a shaft T arranged in the tubular extension M of the frame and the box. J and the other end of this shaft T is connected to a small bevel gear U which in turn meshes with wheel N. If 0 'is required, a differential mechanism can be provided for the rear wheels.
The front pair of wheels G, G are housed outside the frame or frame V and the rear wheels are located on the side of the frame or frame V; thanks to this construction, the two axles F, F; L, L may be placed at the minimum spacing
X is the braking mechanism for wheels G, G and Y is the braking mechanism for wheels I, I, these mechanisms have been controlled by the driver of the car in the usual way
With this construction, it is possible to impart to the two sets of wheels G, G and 1.1 a rocking movement on the pins B, B1 and also another movement of up and down as a result of the action of the springs C, C , but the wheels J,
J
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
can also take a rocking movement in the tubular projection 11 at right angles to the other rocking movement, so that the wheels can always have contact with the road regardless of the s undulations of the latter; and that the frame is always maintained in the desired position without being significantly tilted, as will be appreciated by consulting Figures 4 and 5, the load being distributed equally over the four wheels.
