Process for the production of a wetting agent, cleaning agent, emulsifying agent. suitable product. In the main application, a process for the preparation of a product suitable as a wetting agent, cleaning agent, emulsifier, etc. is described, in which oleic alcohol is esterified with monohaloacetic acid and the ester obtained is reacted with a salt of sulphurous acid.
It has now been found that a valuable product is obtained in a completely analogous manner if octodecyl alcohol is esterified with a monohaloacetic acid, such as chloroacetic acid, and the ester obtained is reacted with a salt of sulfurous acid. The octodecyl alcohol, for example, it can be kept by reducing stearic acid BEZW. their esters.
The octodecyl alcohol can also be obtained by reducing vegetable or animal oils. and fats such as soybean oil, peanut oil etc.
The esterification can be carried out in a customary manner, for example by the action of monobalogen acetic acid on octodecyl alcohol at an elevated temperature. Instead of the free carboxylic acid, its derivatives, for example acid halides or the esters with lower alcohols, can be used to represent the ester.
The reaction of the haloacetic acid ester of octodecyl alcohol thus obtained with the salts of sulfurous acid is carried out in a particularly advantageous manner in the presence of solvents. For example, the ester can be heated with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal sulfite with the addition of a water-soluble organic solvent such as ethyl alcohol. Instead of the ethyl alcohol, an emulsifying agent can also be added to the reaction solution. Above all, the product manufactured according to the present method can also be used for this purpose.
The compound prepared in the manner described is a colorless, water-soluble powder and, like the product obtainable by the process of the main application, is suitable as a detergent, emulsifier, wetting agent. and can be used in many different ways, especially in the textile industry. Example: 270 parts by weight of octodecyl alcohol are heated to 180 ° C. for 7 hours with 100 parts by weight of monochloroacetic acid.
The ester obtained in this way is heated with a 30% alcoholic solution of 150 parts by weight of sodium sulfite for several hours on the reflux condenser with stirring. The alcohol is then evaporated and an aqueous solution of the sodium salt of the sulfoacetic ester of octodecyl alcohol, which has excellent washing and foaming properties and the like, is obtained.
The product can also be obtained in solid form as a water-soluble, colorless powder by evaporating the solution.
