Rizinolsäure CH3(CH2);CHOH C'H_CH = CH(CH,);COOH, Rizinolschwefelsäure CH3(CH,),CH S04H CH,CH = CH(CH_), COOH, Rizinolschwefelsäuremonoester CH, (CH=)CH SO,,R CH,CH=CH(CH:);COOH, R.izinolschwefejlsäurediester CH, (CH .) ;
CH S048, <B>CH?</B> CH = CH(CH=)7COOIt.
Process for the preparation of a wetting agent. The present invention relates to the production of a wetting agent which is mainly used for textile purposes. The wetting agent is derived from the sulphonation products of castor oil. It has been found that not only the sulfo fatty acids and their alkali salts formed during the sulfonation of castor oil are excellent wetting agents, but that their butyl esters are even more responsible for these properties.
In the present process it concerns the Her position of the ricinoleic acid butyl ester. In the sulfonation of ricinoleic acid respectively. Their raw product, castor oil, takes place in the addition of a molecule of sulfuric acid to the base product, which is an oxyacid and an unsaturated fatty acid,
in that the sulfuric acid residue occurs on the hydroxyl group of ricinoleic acid or its double bond. During the esterification, the alkyl radical, in this case the butyl radical, is added to the sulfo group and, depending on the circumstances.
also at the same time to the carboxyl group, and the technical product is a mixture of these esters, in which the component part is attached to the sulfo groups, partly to the carboxyl group, and partly to all groups. The following formulas may be given as a scheme for the composition of the esterification product:
Ricinoleic acid CH3 (CH2); CHOH C'H_CH = CH (CH,); COOH, ricinoleic acid CH3 (CH,), CH S04H CH, CH = CH (CH_), COOH, ricinoleic acid monoester CH, (CH =) CH SO ,, R CH, CH = CH (CH :); COOH, ricinoleic sulfuric acid diester CH, (CH.);
CH S048, <B> CH? </B> CH = CH (CH =) 7COOIt.
The ricinol sulfuric acid butyl ester can be prepared by various methods. The ricinoleic acid can either be prepared as such by treating the ricinoleic acid with sulphonating agents and then esterified with butyl alcohol in a known manner,
But it is also possible to first produce buty1sulfuric acid from butyl alcohol and sulfuric acid and then allow the latter to act on ricinoleic acid. Finally, the ricinoleic acid can be mixed with the butyl alcohol and the mixture treated with sulfonating agents. In all cases, the result is a preparation with a high network value which is added to the treatment liquids for textile goods and which is suitable for increasing the effect of the same due to the network properties.
The following is an example of the manufacture of such a wetting agent: 400 kg of castor fatty acid are mixed with 100 kg of butyl alcohol and this mixture does not exceed the temperature at + 10 ' treated with <B> 600 </B> kg of concentrated sulfuric acid. After the sulfonation has ended, the reaction product is decomposed with ice and the excess sulfuric acid is removed by washing with Glauber's salt solution.
The new product is a water-soluble oil with extraordinarily good wetting power. It is resistant to hard water, acids and salt solutions.
