Description

Process for the production of a wetting agent, cleaning agent, emulsifying agent. suitable product. The main application describes a process for the preparation of a product suitable as a wetting agent, cleaning agent, emulsifying agent, etc., in which sulfoacetic acid is esterified in the carboxyl group with oleic alcohol.

It has now been found that a valuable product is obtained in a completely analogous manner if sulfoacetic acid in the carboxyl group is esterified with tetradecyl alcohol. The tetradecyl alcohol can, for example, be obtained by reducing myristic acid or. their esters.

You can also win the Tetradecyl alcohol by reducing such vegetable oils BEZW. Fats that like palm kernel oil and coconut oil, myristic acid or. contain their esters, and after subsequent fractional distillation.

The esterification can take place in the usual way. The sulfoacetic acid is expediently heated with tetradecyl alcohol to about 100 ° C., it being advantageous to remove the water released during the esterification by applying a vacuum.

Instead of the free sulfoacetic acid, you can also use the monoalkali salt, for example the monosodium salt, which is easily obtained by neutralizing the aqueous solution of sulfoacetic acid with sodium hydroxide until the Congo acidic reaction disappears, with an equivalent of alkali, based on the sulfo group, is consumed. If the sodium salt obtained in this way is heated to about 180 ° C. with the equivalent amount of tetradecyl alcohol, esterification occurs.

The compound produced in the manner described is a colorless, solid product that is readily soluble in water and, like the product obtainable by the process of the main application, is particularly suitable as a detergent, emulsifier, wetting agent, etc. can be used in many ways.

Example: 214 parts by weight of tetradecyl alcohol are heated with 140 parts by weight of sulfoacetic acid for 1 / 2h in a vacuum to 1000 C. The product obtained is taken up in water and neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution. The aqueous solution can be used as such because of its excellent washing, wetting and dispersing properties and the like. The product is also suitable as a plasticizer for rayon; it can also be obtained in solid form by steaming.
