Process for the preparation of the sulfamic acid of 2-aminoanthrahydroquinone-9.1 - disulfuric acid ester s. It is known (see D. R. P.
No. 424981 and its additions) that vat dyes, which also include the vat dyes of the anthraquinone series, can be converted into the acidic ones by treating their leuco compounds with sulfuric anhydride or such esterifying agents in the presence of a tertiary base Sulfuric acid esters of their leuco compounds
respectively can be converted into salts of these esters (ester salts).
It is also known that also amino anthraquinones respectively. Derivatives of the same, such as a-aminoanthraquinones with free and substituted amino groups (see English patent no. 261.139) and B-aminoanthraquinones with acylated amino group (see English patent no. 3122.13 and D. R. P.
No. 473471) can be converted into ester salts by reduction and esterification of the enol groups. From the wording of the mentioned English Pa tentes 1r.312243 it must be concluded that the treatment of aminoanthraquinones with free amino groups would mainly produce sulfamic acids and only small amounts of the aminoanthrahydroquinone disulfuric acid esters and that
in order to obtain the latter, the amino group must be protected by acyl groups.
It has now been found, surprisingly, that if you treat 2-aminoanthraquinone with free amino group after previous reduction in a known manner with sulfuric anhydride or substances releasing as esterifying agents in the presence of a tertiary base,
at the same time can introduce sulfuric acid residues into the enol groups of the anthrahydroquinone and into the free amino group and thus gelano-t to the sulfamic acid of the 2-aminoanthra.hydroquinone-9.10-disulfuric acid ester. In the case of α-aminoanthraquinones, the introduction of a sulfuric acid residue into the free amino group either does not succeed at all or only in an inadequate manner.
The previous reduction of the amino-anthraquinone can take place in various ways, for example by alkaline vatting, by catalytic hydrogenation or by using a metal in the esterification (see D. R. P. No. 473471).
While the ester salts of the leuco compounds of vat dyes of the anthraehinone series or quinones are generally used in dyeing or printing, the sulfamic acid of 2-aminoanthrahydroquinone-9.10-disulfuric acid ester is excellently suited for the production of valuable azo - links. It is strangely possible
converting said compound into the diazo compound of aminoanthrahydroquinone-9.10-disulfuric acid ester by treatment with nitrite and acid, without the easily oxidizable base body, the anthrahydroquinone-9.10-3i-sulfuric acid ester, being oxidized.
By combining this diazo compound with azo components, readily soluble azo compounds are obtained which, through acidic oxidation, are converted into sparingly soluble, interesting azo dyes containing the anthraquinone nucleus by splitting off the sulfuric acid residues.
The same bodies can indeed also be obtained by diazotization and coupling when using an aminoanthrahydrobinon-disulfuric acid ester in which the amino group does not contain any sulfuric acid residue. The aminoanthrahydroquinone disulfuric acid esters with free amino groups are, however, more complicated to prepare than the sulfamic acid of the present process.
The amino group has to be acylated there - the body reduced and esterified and the acyl group saponified again. According to the present process, however, the aminoanthraquinone can be reduced and esterified in one operation and the crude solution of the sulfamic acid compound obtained can be used directly for further processing, for example for diazotization.
For the reasons mentioned, this sulfamic acid and the present process are of technical interest.
The process is illustrated by the following example: Example: 22.3 parts of 2-aminoanthraquinone are stirred into a reaction mixture of 50 parts of chlorosulfonic acid and 200 parts of pyridine at 15 C. The mass is heated to 40 ° C; 20 parts of pure copper powder are gradually added with stirring and stirring is continued at 40 ° C. for a further 6 hours. 1000 parts of a solution containing 75 parts of sodium carbonate are added and the pyridine is driven off with water vapor.
Finally, the copper is filtered off. The solution obtained contains the sodium salt of sulfamic acid of 2-aminoanthrahydroquinone disc11sulfuric acid ester. It is yellowish brown in color and shows an intense blue-green fluorescence. When a few drops of sodium hydroxide solution (30J) are added, the color intensifies with a simultaneous change in color, as the solution turns reddish brown and produces a yellow fluorescence.
It can be assumed that the fluorescence is due to the presence of the enol sulfuric acid ester groups, because the corresponding 2-aminoauthrahydroquinone disinfectant also shows fluorescence in aqueous solution, but with the addition of alkali no deepening and no change in color.
It can also be assumed that the deepening of the color and the change in color to the addition of alkali is due to the presence of the sulfamic acid group, because the sulfamic acid of 2-aminoanthraquinone in aqueous solution also shows this phenomenon, but no fluorescence.
The solution obtained according to this example shows both fluorescence and color change BEZW. Color deepening due to the addition of alkali. Accordingly, it can be concluded that the solute contains sulfamic acid groups and enol sulfamic acid ester groups. This view is confirmed by the analytical determination of the ratio of sulfuric acid to amino anthraquinone.
For the purpose of analysis, the existing sulfuric acid is precipitated with excess chlorobarium and the excess of the latter with soda as carbonate in part of the solution obtained after acidification. It is filtered. The solution is free from SO4 ions and Ba ions. By adding pure. Hydrochloric acid and ferric chloride and by boiling for a few minutes, the insoluble 2-aminoanthraquinone is formed back. This is filtered off and weighed.
The sulfuric acid split off is determined in the usual manner in the filtrate. For 1 mol. 2-Aminoanthraquinone approximately 1 mol. HZS04 are found.
The sulfamic acid formed by 2 aminoanthrahydroquinone disulfuric acid ester can neither be used as an alkali salt nor as a free acid with the usual. Agents are deposited from the aqueous solution. This solution is best used directly for further processing, for example for diazotization.
