Description

Lighting device for vehicles. The object of the present invention is a lighting device for vehicles according to the claim of the main patent. This device is characterized by at least one headlight permanently mounted on the vehicle, so that its horizontal axis is oblique with respect to the longitudinal axis of the wheel and provided with flaps, fixed and spaced, arranged parallel to the axis of the lighthouse, so as to let the light pass directly in the direction of this axis, to brightly illuminate one side of the road.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.

Fig. 1 is a general view of a positive lighting device mounted on a vehicle; FIG. 2 is a horizontal section of a lighthouse.

In the embodiment shown, 1 and 2 are the two usual headlights fixed to the chassis of an automobile 3, their axis being parallel to the longitudinal axis of the road. The automobile also carries, permanently mounted (they could be in other points) on its mudguards 4, two other headlights 5 and 6 whose axes d and e intersect the longitudinal axis of the road. In each of these headlights 5 and 6, 7 is the bulb, 8 the reflector and 9 the casing which is extended at the front by a cylindrical part 10 enclosed by a glass 11.

In this cylindrical part 10, are fixed vertically a series of flaps 12 equidistant from one to two centimeters approximately (the spacing of the flaps could also vary from one flap to another) and arranged parallel to the axis of the headlight.

When the headlight is on, the light rays a pass through the free spaces between the shutters, thus forming a single, slightly diverging beam. A switch (not shown), mounted close to the driver of the automobile, enables headlights 1 and 2, 5 or 6 to be turned on or off separately. In normal operation, headlights 1 and 2 will be on. ! At the moment of a crossing, the driver will switch off the latter to switch on the headlight 6, the beam of which A will illuminate the right of the road, b, at a certain distance from the vehicle and the side lights of the large headlights to mark the position of the car.

This same headlight 6 will be on to illuminate an outline f of the road, while the outline c of the latter will be illuminated by a beam B coming from the headlight 5.

The flaps 12 can be opaque or translucent. In the first case, when one or the other of the headlights 5 and 6 is on, the road will be lit by a single beam, and in the second case, a beam C, consisting of by the rays passing through the translucent shutters. This beam gives a soft light which illuminates the front of the mobile car more intensely than the usual night lights, without however dazzling.
