Lighting device for motor vehicles. The problem of motor vehicles crossing at night, despite the innumerable proposals which have been made to solve it, remains unresolved. Drivers are still well aware of the dangers of night traffic due to crossings. The accidents still far too numerous, which occur as a result, demonstrate. although no really satisfactory solution has yet been found.
Indeed, the proposals which have been made to remedy the drawbacks and dangers of nocturnal motor vehicle crossings have turned out to be ineffective oLi of a realization so complicated or so expensive that they could not enter into. convenient.
The object of the present invention differs from these prior proposals in that it does not consist of. improve the high beam headlights by attempting to reduce the glare produced. on the driver of the passing vehicle, since it relates on the contrary to an auxiliary lighting device placed side by side on the vehicle on the side of the crossing and placed in such a way that it illuminates the road to the vehicle to be crossed, for . the period when the large headlights are turned off.
Thus, the drivers of the vehicles have their road reciprocally illuminated by the other vehicle: the danger of an obstacle along the road, cyclist, pedestrian, tree, embankment, etc., which normally becomes invisible for a certain time, disappears. We could also provide that the side lighting remains permanent. The construction of the lighting device, as well as where it can be placed, can also change to some extent, provided the road is lit from the side.
It may also be advantageous for the light source not to illuminate only perpendicularly to the vehicle, but also in front and behind it, over a certain distance, which will further facilitate the crossing by giving more time to the vehicle. dueteur for the maneuver back to road lighting.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, some faith-my execution of the device forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a first form in which the light source is placed on the front fender of the vehicle, on the crossing side.
The, fig. \ 3 represents a second form in which the light source is placed on the roof of the vehicle.
Fig. 3 shows a third form in which the light source is placed under the vehicle, its radiation being di rigé on the side of the crossing and. towards the front of the vehicle.
In the three fig. 1, 2, 3, the goal is. to illuminate the road to the car that we pass without dazzling the driver.
In fig. 3, the specially designed shape projector will leave. see the driver who is going to cross and the pedestrians, the template. of the vehicle, on a sheet of light. This form of lighting is. specially intended for cities where public lighting is often insufficient, while only police fires are tolerated.
In the snow and in foggy weather, sprawl. light beams, without visibility of the focus which emits them, will illuminate without straining the sight.
We will switch, without neutral, from main beam lights to side lighting.
As soon as the crossing has been made, each driver will have the option of returning to the lighting he deems appropriate.
