Process ornamental representation of a cluster dye of the benzanthr on-pyr azolanthr on series. The subject of this additional patent is a process for the preparation of a vat dye of the benzanthrone-pyrazolanthrone series, characterized in that trichlorobenzanthi, one-pyrazolanthrone,
which is obtainable by the action of chlorine on benzanthrone-pyrazole-anthrone in trichlorobenzene at a temperature which is close to the boiling point, allows an oxidizing agent to act, treats the resulting chirion-like oxidation product with a reducing agent and the resulting hydroxyl compound with methylating agents after treated.
Example: In about 300 parts by weight of concentrated sulfuric acid, with or without the addition of boric acid, 20 parts by weight of tricblor-benzanthrone-pyrazolantbrone, which is formed by the action of chlorine on benzanthrone-pyrazolanthrone in trichlorobenzene at a temperature that is available, stirred in or pebbled in, which is close to the boiling point.
After complete solution has entered, 20 parts by weight of finely powdered manganese dioxide are gradually introduced, respectively, with thorough mixing at normal temperature and avoiding greater self-heating as possible. as much as is necessary to change the color of the melt to red. The sulfuric acid solution should lose the property of turning green in a thin layer in moist air and a sample drawn should give a green-yellow precipitate when it is poured into water after oxidation has ended.
When this point is reached, stir briefly and then pour into ice and water. About 200 parts by volume of concentrated bisulfite liquor are then added to the cold suspension of the oxidation product and the mixture is stirred at steam bath temperature until the sulfurous acid has disappeared. The yellow quinone initially formed changes into the blue-green hydroxyl compound, which is placed on a filter, washed out and dried.
Instead of using manganese dioxide, the oxidation can also be carried out with another similarly acting agent, such as manganese sulphate. Likewise, the action of nitric acid or nitric acid-sulfuric acid mixtures produces yellow compounds, which are characterized by the properties of oxidation products. Instead of concentrated sulfuric acid, sulfuric acid with a slightly higher water content, for example sulfuric acid of 60 B6, can be used.
For the purpose of methylation, for example, one part by weight of the oxidation product, calcined soda and p-toluenesulfonic acid methyl ester are stirred in about 15 parts of nitrobenzene or trichlorobenzene at an oil bath temperature of 180 to 190.degree. After about three hours, if necessary, the same amount of ester is added and kept at the specified temperature for a total of 6 to 7 hours. The color of the solution becomes more bluish and clearer as the methylation progresses.
After cooling, it is filtered, with a little nitrobenzene or. Trichlorobenzene, then washed with alcohol and water and gasified or dried ge.
The methylation of the oxidation product obtained primarily can also be carried out at normal temperature in an aqueous suspension in the presence of alkali by means of dialkyl sulfate.
The dye has the following formula:
EMI0002.0023
It is soluble in sulfuric acid wine-red and, from a blue vat, produces green-blue colorations.
