Description

Process for the preparation of the glycerol ester of polyricinoleic acid. Processes have been known up to now which allow the production of esters of condensed oxy acids. But all of the information emphasizes that high temperatures are necessary to obtain these esters; you can find the information from <B> 180 '</B> and also 235. However, it turned out that it is possible to prepare these esters at low temperatures, provided that suitable catalysts are used. Sulfonic acids are suitable as such catalysts.

The formation of the esters of the condensed acids takes place very easily.

The present invention is based on this new finding and relates to a process for the production of the glycerine ester of polyrizinoleic acid, which is characterized in that ricinoleic acid is heated to temperatures below 180 ° C. in the presence of a catalyst and that the condensation product is added with castor oil Continue heating until it is completely saturated. The ricinoleic acid can be heated in the presence of a catalyst in a vacuum.

Sulfonic acids, for example, can be used as the catalyst. Example: 100 grams of ricinoleic acid with an acid number = 180 are mixed with 0.5 grams of naphthene sulfonic acid and heated under vacuum for 6 hours; after this time the acid number has dropped to 100, which means that diricinoleic acid has been formed.

If the heating is continued, the acid number also drops further and reaches 66 with long enough heating and 44 after very long heating. Polyricinoleic acid is formed.

If castor oil is then added to the product and heating continues, the acidic group is completely saturated, and a thick, viscous oil is obtained, which, according to its chemical composition, can be described as a glycerol ester of polycinoleic acid.
