Piston cooling device for internal combustion engines. The invention relates to a piston cooling device for internal combustion engines with supply of the coolant in a free jet. In these devices, the back pressure that the jet has to overcome when penetrating the reciprocating coolant supply line, due to the inertia of the reciprocating coolant column at a dead point, can rise so high that the jet bounces off and a high coolant loss occurs Consequence is. According to the invention, therefore, an air chamber is arranged between the free jet and the piston cooling chamber, through which the pressure surges occurring in the cooling system, caused by the inertial forces of the reciprocating liquid column, are dampened.
In order to prevent coolant from flowing back into the wind vessel, the wind vessel can be provided with a non-return device. The tube that collects the free jet is expediently attached to the air chamber.
An embodiment of the subject invention is shown in the drawing, sometimes drawn in section. a is the cylinder, b the water-cooled piston, c the piston rod, d the crosshead, e the push rod, f the crankshaft and g the frame of a double-acting, standing internal combustion engine. The cooling water is supplied to the piston through the line lt , from which it flows in a free jet i into a crosshead attached to the cross head, reciprocating with it and through the line k and the hollow col rod with the piston cooling chamber verbun denes tube l is injected in order to be removed again from the piston on other ways, not shown.
The pipe l is connected to the line k by an air vessel attached to the crosshead, through the pressure surges counteracting the jet entry into the pipe l, caused by the inertial forces of the cooler moving back and forth with the piston liquid column so damped. be that a temporary ricochet of the jet at the lower end of the tube l and the associated coolant losses avoided who the. The air chamber is connected to the line k by a non-return valve n, by means of which a temporary backflow of coolant into the air chamber is prevented.
The pipe l is surrounded by a white direct pipe o which closes the jet from the gearbox of the machine and from which the leakage water losses are discharged through the line p.
