Process for the preparation of a reduction product of indoxyl. It has been found that a reduction product of indoxyl can be obtained if indoxyl is treated with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.
According to its analysis and behavior, the new body is 2,3-dihydroindoxyl and, after recrystallization from a benzene-ligroin mixture with the addition of animal charcoal, has a melting point of 92-93 C. It is said to be an intermediate product for the production of Colorants, fragrances and pharmaceutical products are used.
It is expedient to work in the presence of diluents or solvents, such as water, alcohol, with or without the addition of alkalis or alkaline salts, for example carbonates, acetates, phosphates or borates. Aqueous solutions of salts have proven to be particularly favorable, the hydrogen ion concentration of which is approximately within the limits of PIR = 7.0 to 9.5. However, the indoxyl can also be hydrogenated beyond the values mentioned and good yields are obtained.
The usual hydrogenation catalysts can be used as catalysts, advantageously those which contain the metals of the first and eighth group of the periodic table individually or as a mixture with one another.
Particularly suitable in this hall are mixed catalysts, such as nickel-copper, copper-cobalt, The metals can be supported on supports such as kieselgmr, huller earth, aluminum hydroxide, with or without additives, for example those of various activators Groups of the periodic system.
The hydrogenation of indoxyl to? . 3 Dihydroindoxyl is conveniently carried out at elevated hydrogen pressure and normal temperature. A particularly advantageous way of working is to start the hydrogenation at a low temperature, for example -I-15 ° C., and gradually increase it to 25-35 ° C. over the course of several hours.
Example: A shaking autoclave is charged with 8 parts of indoxyl, 10 parts of a copper-cobalt-I \ ieselguhr catalyst containing 100 parts of 12.5 parts of copper and 12.5 parts of bobalt, 20 parts of sodium bicarbonate and 175 parts of ice-cold water . Then hydrogen of about 100 atm. Pressure, whereupon the mixture is slowly heated to <B> +26 '</B> C within 12 hours while shaking and is held at this temperature for a further 30 hours. The pressure is released, the catalyst is sucked off and washed several times with cold water.
The filtrate is extracted several times with ether and the ethereal solution containing the reaction product is worked up in the usual way. A crude product is obtained which, after being recrystallized once from a benzene-ligroin-C mixture with the addition of animal charcoal, is pure and melts at 92-93.degree.
