30 kg Natriumhydrosulfit in 200 Liter Natronlauge 32 Be und etwa 700 Liter Wasser eingiesst.
Process for producing a haloarylthioglycolic acid. The present patent relates to a process for the production of 1-methyl-2. 4- dichloro-benzene-5-ihioglycol:
acid, characterized in that 1-methyl-2-amino-4-chlorobenzene is allowed to act on 1-methyl-2-amino-4-chlorobenzene, an inorganic rhodanide in dissolved form and at the same time a halogen and in the 1-methyl-2-amino-4 formed in this way -chlor-5-rhodanobenzene on the one hand saponifies the rhodan group by the action of alkaline saponifying agents in the presence of a reducing agent to form the mercapto group and the latter with condensation
Monoehloroacetic acid converted into thioglycolic acid, on the other hand the amino group is diazotized and replaced by chlorine by the action of a copper chloride solution on the hydrochloric acid diazo solution.
The 1-methyl-2,4-dichlorobenzene-5-thioglycolic acid obtained in this way is soluble in organic solvents and in hot water. It melts around 112. It should be used as an intermediate for the production of dyes, especially thioindigo dyes.
Example: In a well-cooled solution of 70.5 kg of 1-methyl-2-amino-4-chlorobenzene and 160 kg of rhodium sodium in 3, 60 kg of methyl alcohol are left with stirring, preferably at a temperature below < B> 0 ', </B> slowly drip in a cooled solution of 100 kg of bromine in 220 kg of methyl alcohol. It is advantageous to use such a methyl alcohol, which has previously been saturated with a suitable electrolyte, for example potassium bromide, to protect it against any attack by the free rhodan. to protect the bromine.
The solution obtained in this way can be processed further directly without the rhodan compound being deposited, for example by converting it into a solution of about Pour 30 kg of sodium hydrosulphite into 200 liters of 32 Be sodium hydroxide solution and about 700 liters of water. It is heated briefly to about <B> 60 '</B> and, as soon as the saponification of the rhodan compound to the mercaptan has ended, an alkaline solution of 50 kg of monochloroacetic acid is added at about <B> 30' </B> . After briefly heating to <B> 60 '</B>, the condensation has ended.
The methyl alcohol is distilled off, the filtered solution is carefully cooled and neutralized with dilute acids and the 2-amino-1-methyl-4-chlorobenzene-5-thioglycolic acid formed is expediently precipitated with acetic acid. Recrystallized from water, it melts at around 120 '. The solution obtained during the condensation can be processed further without further purification. The hydrochloric acid diazo solution produced therefrom in a known manner is allowed to flow into an approximately <B> 80 '</B> warm copper chloride solution which has been prepared from approximately 130 kg of copper sulfate.
The 1-methyl-2 separates with vigorous evolution of nitrogen. 4-dichlorobenzene-5-thioglycolic acid from. After cooling, it is sucked off and washed out with water.
