Description
Process for the preparation of an azo dye. It has been found that Bordeaux and violet-brown azo dyes are obtained when 4-amino naphthalic acid derivatives of the following constitution are used
EMI0001.0007
where X is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl,
or their substitution products or derivatives are diazotized and coupled in substance or on the fiber with 2,3-oxynaphtoe acid arylamides. These azo dyes provide shades that are characterized by good to excellent lightfastness.
The 4-aminonaphthalic acid derivatives can be prepared, for example, from 4-aminonaphthalic anhydride or their substitution products by reaction with ammonia, aliphatic and aromatic amines.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of an azo dye, which consists in that the diazo compound of 4-amino-1,8-naphthalic acid methylimide with 2-3-oxynaphthoic acid-2'-5'-dimethoxy-1'- anilid domes. A beautiful, very bluish border of excellent lightfastness is obtained.
Example: The diazo solution prepared in the usual way from 22 parts by weight of 4-amino-1-8-naphthalic acid methylimide is allowed to stir into a solution of 32 parts by weight of 2-3-oxynaphthoic acid-e- 2'-5'-dimethoxy-1'-anilide in 90 parts by volume of 340N sodium hydroxide solution diluted with water.
The dye separates and is filtered off, washed and dried; it has a bluish bordo and has excellent lightfastness.
