Arrangement for the vacuum-tight connection of parts made of metal with parts of vacuum vessels made of an insulating material. The invention relates to an arrangement for the vacuum-tight connection of metallic parts and parts of vacuum vessels consisting of insulating materials, such as glass, quartz, stone, steatite, but especially porcelain.
Such connections are necessary, for example, for mercury vapor rectifiers with an iron vessel. The following difficulties must be overcome: The connection point between the insulation material and the metal must 'have sufficient mechanical strength; it must be able to withstand greater compressive or bending forces.
This condition is satisfied by the seals at the duroheading points of mercury vapor rectifiers, in which resistant porcelain bodies are connected to the metal parts with the interposition of rubber or via sealing surfaces sealed with grease.
However, the arrangement has the disadvantage that the seal is not sufficiently vacuum-tight, in particular because the sealant tends to give off gas.
The arrangement according to the invention now eliminates the difficulties outlined above, since it is mechanically very stable and also ensures complete sealing. The parts of the vessel made of metal and those made of an insulating material expediently border one another over ground surfaces.
According to the invention, the sealing point on the outside of the Crefä-ssesi is surrounded by an elastic metal jacket, which is connected in a vacuum-tight manner to the metal and to the parts of the vessel made of an insulating material.
Such a metal jacket, for example made of thin sheet metal, can be connected completely vacuum-tight by welding with the metal or by fusing with your porcelain.
The connection is also not BEZW due to internal tensions when heating the vessel. endangered by mechanical forces, as the metal jacket is sufficiently elastic and the mechanical forces are also absorbed by the actual vessel walls, which are made of metal and insulating material.
As an embodiment of the invention, the drawing shows an electrode lead-through for a mercury vapor rectifier with an iron vessel. 1 is the metallic vessel rim,
2 the rod-shaped electrode leadthrough "3 an insulation cylinder made of porcelain. The E, electrode leadthrough has a disk-shaped extension 4, which adjoins the porcelain cylinder 3 on the outside via a conical ground surface 5. The porcelain cylinder 3 and the Ge vessel wall i connected to one another via a conical ground joint 6.
The Por zellanzylinder 3 is now at the points where it wall 1 BEZW on grinding surfaces. adjacent to the electrode lead-through part 4, surrounded on the outside by elastic metal jackets 7 and 8. The Mäntel1 7 and 8 are on the one hand with the Ge fässwandung 1 respectively. the electrode bushing 2 is welded, on the other hand with the Piarzellan (,
cyl'inder 3 [vlerschmollzen. This fusion is carried out in such a way that an intermediate layer 9 of glass is provided between the metal (lamina, element and the porcelain cylinder), the expansion coefficient of the glass being between that of the glaze of the porcelain and that of the metal. The jackets 7 and 8 are made of corrugated sheet metal to increase their elasticity.
