Process for the production of a durable and cheap buttress covering. , The stone pavement has been a very popular road surface since ancient times. According to the type of paving stones used, the paving stones can be divided into those in which the paving stones have been prepared regularly and with the same shape and those in which the quarry stones are little worked, the paving stones therefore irregular and different in shape are. The latter ass of plasters are called "rough plasters".
Among the first-mentioned plasters, the cube plaster is the best known and widely used. Because the stones are processed in the same way, the wear of a cube pavement is regular, in contrast to the rough pavement, which type of paving away from the uneven wear and tear and the poor stability of the individual stones nowadays is hardly used any more, although this rough paving is significantly cheaper to stand than any other paving.
In recent times the asphalt impregnation of the streets has become very popular. This is due to the fact that asphalt layers are permeable to water and to the fact that asphalt and its substitutes are an excellent putty for connecting the Chausc3ierun (#, s-,
esteins. In very recent times the possibility of using asphalt and its substitutes has been increased by the production of the very popular and easy-to-process finely dispersed asphalt solutions, which are known as cold asphalts.
A cube paving with asphalt pavement is generally considered to be one of the best, if not the best, road surface today. Unfortunately, their general use is opposed to the very high price.
Experience has now shown, and this is the essence of the invention, that a cheap and yet durable road surface can be obtained by pouring cold asphalt over a rough paving and rolling it before the latter sets. The purpose of rolling is to achieve a thorough mixing of the asphalt with the fine material used as a base for the paving stones.
The bonding power of the cold asphalt means that the disadvantages that are inherent in the usual rough paving no longer appear. 3o the cheap, rough paving, which has been abandoned because of its disadvantages, can be turned into a promising road surface again through this new impregnation process. Among the cold splinters, those are particularly suitable which contain the bituminous substances in colloidal form.
Exemplary embodiment: The old roadway or the finished substructure a is covered with around 6 cm sand b . The irregular paving stones c are inserted into the sand in such a way that the largest and most level side is facing up. An irregular joint system forms (Fig. 1). This is followed by wet rolling, which compensates for minor bumps and at the same time allows the sand to rise up to a certain height between the stones. Without waiting for it to dry, cold asphalt is now plentifully applied.
For this purpose, the cold asphalt brand "Bimoid" has particularly proven itself due to its good adhesion, its high bitumen content and the high degree of dispersion of the bituminous substances. NocIL before the finely dispersed asphalt solution sets, the paving is covered with splinters and rolled again.
The cold asphalt penetrates into the spaces between the stones and the squashed layer of sand and causes permanent wear. At the same time, a mixture of sand and asphalt that is very resistant to wear wear and tear forms d the irregular joints. This prevents the ingress of water and prevents the formation of potholes. The great advantages of this new method for installing the paving stones are as follows: # 1. Possibility of using the cheap, irregular paving stones.
2. Instead of ramming the individual paving stones, the cheaper wet rolling is used.
3. After wet rolling, cold asphalt paving can be carried out immediately, without having to wait for it to dry, since the finely dispersed asphalt solution itself contains water and bonds better to wet ground than to dry.
