Derartige Isatine nachstehender Konstitution:
EMI0001.0041

Process for the preparation of an indigoid dye. While the ss-naphtisatin and the 2.
3-naphthisatin, ie derivatives of β-naphthylamine for the production of indigoid dyes have gained importance in technology, α-naphthisatin and its substitution products have so far not been used. Of the halogenated a-naphthisatins, only the one produced by bromination of a-naphthisatin in glacial acetic acid is:
6 to 287 melting monobromo-a-naphthisatin became known (DRP 213 50 "0), in which the halogen is probably in the p-position to the imino group of the isatin. With 3-oxy-l-thionaphthene it gives one brown-purple dye.
It has now been shown that halogenated naphthisatins, in which a halogen is in the peri-position to the imino group, are outstandingly suitable for the production of valuable high-quality dyes.
Such isatins of the following constitution:
EMI0001.0041
in which X denotes a halogen, and the other substituents, such as Cl, Br, Xj0 @ 2, OCHg, etc.
NEN, depending on whether they are used as isatins themselves or in the form of their α-substitution products, with the components customary for the manufacture of indigoid dyes, such as oxythiophene, oxindole, indoxyl, acenaphtenone, α-anthrole , a-naphtol, a-ogyanthranol,
Karbazole and similar compounds violet to black K, veneer dyes, which are characterized by excellent fastness properties.
The present invention is a process for the preparation of a violet indigoid dye, which is characterized in that 8-chloro-l. 2-naphthisatin is halogenated in a-, position and the a-halide obtained, for example the a-chloride,
with 4-methyl-6-chloro-3-oxy thio- naphten brings to implementation. The dark violet dye obtained in this way dissolves in sulfuric acid with a green color and dyes cotton from an orange-yellow vat in violet shades of excellent washing, chlorine and lightfastness.
Example: 28 parts by weight of 8-chloro-1. 2-naphthisatin (dark red leaflets. Made from glacial acetic acid, melting point 239 ) are converted into α-chloride by treatment with phosphorus pentachloride in chlorobenzene and 20 parts by weight of 4-methyl-6-chloro-solution are added to the clear solution. 3- oxythionaphten given. It is then heated as long as the dye formation continues, then suctioned off and washed with alcohol.
