Description
Yeriahren for the production of a soluble cadmium compound. The main patent describes a process according to which a complex compound of antimony with pyrogallol disulfonic acid is obtained. Compounds of this type differ from ordinary salts of antimony in that they do not have a number of reactions of these salts. They contain the antimony in a more solid so-called complex compound. These substances can be used as remedies, because in them, due to the stronger bond of the antimony, the harmful effect is suppressed compared to the healing effect.
It has been found that the same conditions prevail when potassium catechol disulphonate is reacted with cadmium hydroxide.
The method is best carried out in such a way that potassium catechol disulphonate is reacted with the required amount of the cadmium compound in an aqueous solution, if necessary with heating.
Example: In a hot solution of 35 g of pyrocatechol disulphonate, as much cadmium hydroxide is dissolved as is necessary to achieve a neutral or almost neutral solution. It is filtered and, after cooling, the complex salt formed is precipitated as a flaky precipitate by adding an organic solvent. The product obtained is a colorless to slightly yellow colored powder which is easily soluble in water. It is used as an agent against infectious diseases.
Cadmium carbonate can also be used as a starting point for the production of the cadmium complex salt. This probably creates cadmium hydroxide as an intermediate product.
