Internal combustion scorer. The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine in which the intake, compression, expansion and exhaust phases correspond to unequal strokes of the piston.
For this purpose, and according to the invention, the crankshaft is arranged so as to rotate on itself and to rotate simultaneously around an axis parallel to its geometrical axis such that the trajectory of the The crank has two vertices close to the cylinder and corresponding respectively to the end of the compression and exhaust strokes and two peaks remote from the cylinder corresponding respectively to the end of the expansion and intake strokes, means making it possible to transmit the rotational movement of the crank shaft - to a proper motor shaft.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, a two-cylinder engine established according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a cross section of the motor along 1-1 of FIG. 2; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, taken on 2-2 of FIG. 1, and FIG. 3 shows the trace of the epicycloidal stroke of each crank pin and the respective positions of the corresponding piston.
In each cylinder 1 and 2 moves a piston 3 connected to a crank pin 5 of the crank shaft 6 by a connecting rod 4.
This crank shaft rotates in ports provided on a cake 7, which can itself rotate in a housing reserved in the housing 8.
On the crank shaft 6 is a satellite pinion 10 which meshes with a fixed pinion 11 integral with the plate 12 of the housing.
The cake 7 carries an external toothed ring 13 which transmits the movement, via the pinion 14, to the motor shaft 15 carried by bearings 16.
The s-t, zf - v and x-y axes are respec tively the axes of the crank pin, pinion 11 and pinion 10, the ec .--- v axis also being the axis of rotation of the cake 7.
The distribution envisaged here consists of rotary sliders 17 and 19 arranged on the cylinder head of the engine.
The operation of the above-described motor is as follows: With the motor started, the thrust of the lowering pin on the crankpin 5 tends to impart a rotational movement to the satellite pigilou 10 around its x-y axis; this pin not being able to drive the pinion 11 which is fixed, rolls on the latter by imparting to the cake 7 a rotational movement about its axis and at the same time. <B> At </B> the same time, the pin 5 describes curve A.
The rotational movement of the cake is directly transmitted to the motor shaft 15 by the pinions 14.
The distribution being properly adjusted by the rotary sliders 17 and 19, the crankpin axis cycle will be carried out. following the indications in fig. 3.
Admission during the race: <I> a 'b' </I> Compression during the race: b 'c' Relaxation during the race: <I> c 'd' </I> Fchappement during the race: <I> d 'a' </I> The shape of the epicyclic curve --1 can be set for any desired ratio between the. admission stroke and relaxation stroke; it suffices, for this purpose, to make the relation of the distances between the axes x-y and s-t, and îc-i @ and x-y.
On the other hand, it is possible to vary the ratio between the intake stroke and the compression stroke by modifying the position of the axis of the cylinder relative to the axis of symmetry of the. curve A.
The realization of the motor which has just been described allows. to obtain the following advantages Compression can be pushed up to self-ignition. On the other hand, if the different elements according to which the shape of the curve A and the angle o can be varied are determined in such a way that at points a and c la. piston head 3 is at a very short distance from the bottom of the cylinder dre, on the one hand, the explosion chamber is reduced to a minimum (within the limits imposed for the construction of the piston and the cylinder) and, on the other hand, the burnt gases are completely evacuated.
It should be noted that at each turn of the a.rbre-crank around the axis t4 - v, that is to say at each turn (blocks 7, corresponds to one explosion per cylinder.
The expansion stroke can be prolonged until the exhaust gas temperature is near room temperature, or at least is low enough so that the oil is not burnt. and that the lubrication is carried out correctly. The cooling of the gases produced by the expansion makes it possible to eliminate the external cooling by air or by water and it is then qlitao, them to insulate the cylinder to <B>, </B> av # Zn n avoid the heat loss through the walls.
It will be noted that, as a result of. extended de tent, the pressure at the end of the expansion is lower than atmospheric pressure. If the fluid binds provides more engine work from the moment the gas pressure comes lower. atmospheric pressure, it should be noted, however, that the organs having a reciprocating movement pos sess a living force which is transformed at least in part into pressure energy in the casing, to be used for. acceleration of masses on return. This pressure energy can be increased by making the housing sensibly tight.
In order for the exhaust to take place, the exhaust valve opens only when the pressure in the cylinder reaches atmospheric pressure.
When the engine is polycylindrical, the cylinders can be arranged in one or more lines, or in a star, which in no way changes the eycle of the engine. In the 11-star arrangement, the crankshaft can be unique, each crank pin describing its own epicycloid.
We see on the. fig. 3 that during the compression and expansion strokes, that is to say for the strokes during which the forces on the piston are greatest, the axis of the. connecting rod is in positions very close to the axis of the cylinder; the lateral forces, and consequently the friction on 1- :: walls of the cylinder, are therefore considerably reduced.
It should also be noted that in the expansion stroke the relative positions of the axis of the connecting rod 4 (that is to say the line joining the axes of the root and the big end) and of the uv and xy axes are such that the thrust of the connecting rod tends to make the block 7 turn, as if the crankpin were integral with the block 7 The inclination of the axis of the epicycloid with respect to the axis of the cylinder will be determined according to the desired compression ratio, the fuel used, the characteristics of the engine, the speed adopted and the rate of expansion.
Naturally, the method of construction described and represented can receive numerous modifications of detail without, for this, departing from the scope of the invention. In particular, the drive shaft 15 can be arranged in any desired way relative to the cylinders and the housing, the pinions 14 being able to be replaced, or supplemented, by any suitable transmission. The shaft 15 could be replaced by two ends of trees respectively integral with the cakes 7; in this case, the pinions 11 would be hollow and crossed axially by the motor shaft ends, extending outside the casing.
