Rolls for, the regeneration of the. tread. of pneumatic tires by vulcanization. This invention relates to a mold for regenerating the tread of used pneumatic tires by vulcanization.
This mold has a hollowed out annular body with short side walls must one is presented by an annular body closure ring, a die fitting into the bottom of the annular body recess and a free rim plating into the tire for supporting the air chamber and ensuring intimate contact between said tread and said die.
In the appended drawing showing an example of execution of this mold: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the mold with the closure ring shown lifted; Fig. 2 is the side view, partly cut away; - Fig. 3 is a partial cross section on a larger scale.
The mold shown has its side walls dimensioned 4th ma-niére not to completely cover those de- casing 4 of the banding which is to regenerate the tread. This method of establishing the mold is, moreover, known: it has proved to be convenient in practice - due to the fact that vulcanization is thus almost exclusively restricted to the tread of the casing of the tire, that is to say, the part of the latter that needs to be regenerated.
It is also advantageous when regenerating the worn and tired casing of a pneumatic tire to avoid subjecting its walls to any type of fatigue, in particular by inflating the inner tube 5, while the heels of said casing are kept in the i ante. These heels must remain free as well as the casing, while pressurized air is forced into the air chamber 5 so as to ensure as close contact as possible with the die.
This is achieved by using the free rim 6, the diameter of which compared to that of the casing 4 is calculated so that, when the latter is in place, a sufficient space is left between the rim and the wall. internal of said envelope to house the air chamber.
The rim 6 is formed by a number of sections articulated to each other to form a ring, the parts of which can be brought inwards, the ends of the sections being, as shown in FIG. 1, cut at an angle to allow this movement The main part 7 forming the body of the mold is constituted by a hollowed out annular body with short side walls enclosing in the bottom of the recess the matrix 8 studied to be able to be mounted in the mold by simple interlocking or dislocation. The outer surface of the closure ring 9 forms the lateral sides of the annular body 7. It is secured to the other part of the body 7 by a hinge as shown.
This closing ring makes it possible, once lifted, to place the die 8 in the mold (so that inatricea of various configurations can be used in the same mold.
To suit the mold for the treatment of bandages having sizes different from that of the casing of ordinary bandages or from that of bandages of the type. "balloon", the housing of the matrix is dimensioned to correspond to the conformation imposed by the maximum size; when an envelope of a larger gauge than the usual gauge has to be treated in the mold, the body 7 is provided with an intermediate piece 10 (fig. 1 and 3) flush with the level of the die; against the latter and the envelope applies the ring 9.
To allow movement of the closing ring when the intermediate piece 10 is in place, the joint support plate 11 is perforated and adjustable; it is held on the body 7, the part 10 and the ring 9 are hollow and connected as usual to the steam pipes in order to properly heat the envelope during vulcanization.
In practice, the ring being lifted and the die 8 having been nested in place, the rim 6 fitted with the inner tube 5 is placed; in place in the casing whose tread is to be regenerated. The whole is then placed in the mold, the closure ring 9 of which is folded back. Air is then forced into the air chamber 5 according to the required pressure while sending steam into the capacity of the mold to heat it. . The air pressure lifts the free sides of the casing, which allows in time contact between the tread and the matrix while avoiding any unnecessary stress on the side walls and the heels of said casing.
If it is a question of regenerating the tread of a larger envelope, the intermediate piece 10 is put in place, after which it is sufficient to loosen the screws 12 and slide the plate 11 of the hinge pin outwards. part 9, then fold it down.
Once the vulcanization is complete, part 9 is lifted, which allows the envelope of the bandage as well as the matrix to be released all at once. It is also possible to bring the jact 6 back on itself, release it from the casing with the air chamber now deflated and then detach the casing from the matrix.
