Process for the preparation of a related disazo dye. It has been found that a very valuable accessory disazo dye can be obtained by adding acidyl-2. 4- toluylenediamine-5-sulfonic acid diazotized, coupled with salicylic acid, saponified,
the sulfomethylmetaamino-benzene-azo-salicylic acid thus obtained is further diazotized and coupled with 1-acetylamino-8-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid.
Example: Divide the usual way of 274 parts by weight of ogalyl-2,4-toluylenediamine-5-sulfonic acid (German patent no. 121746), 69 parts by weight of sodium nitrite @ and the required amount of hydrochloric acid in 1000 weight Diazo compound prepared with water is allowed to run into an ice-cold solution of 138 parts by weight of salicylic acid in 1000 parts by weight of water and 200 parts by weight of soda. The temperature is kept at 0 until the end of the coupling (approx. 10 to 12 hours).
The monoazo dye is isolated by casting salts and saponified by boiling for half an hour with 400 parts by weight of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution in 2000 parts by weight of water. The excess sodium hydroxide solution is blunted with hydrochloric acid and table salt is added to complete the separation.
The sulfomethylmetaamino-benzene-azo-salicylic acid thus obtained forms a dry yellow-brown powder, soluble in water with a yellow color that does not change with mineral acids.
The diazo compound obtained from 351 parts by weight of the same (analogous to the details for the further diazotization of 3-aminobenzolazosalicylic acid, Patent No. 137594, Example I) is allowed to pour into an ice-cold solution of 405 parts by weight of the disodium salt of the 1-acetylamino- 8-naphthol 3.6-disulfonic acid in 2000 parts by weight of water and 200 parts by weight of soda fen. The coupling has ended after about five hours of stirring.
The formed azo dye is salted out and pressed out. When dry, it forms a dark red powder that dissolves in water with bluish red, in concentrated sulfuric acid of the same color. With acetic acid chromium, printed on cotton, it gives a chlorine-, soap- and lightfast bluish red.
