Zasutzpzitent to the main patent no. 102540. Seduce to prepare a derivative of 4: 4f-dinietliyl-6: 61-dieblor- bis-thionaphtlienindigo. The main patent describes a process for the production of a stable, water-soluble derivative of indigo in solid form, from which the dye can be regenerated by oxidation and which is valuable for use in dyeing and printing.
This process consists in the leucoindigo with the help of sulfuric acid anhydride or substances which release substances as esterifying agents, conveniently in the presence. a tertiary base, such as dimethylaniline, is passed into the acidic ester of sulfuric acid.
The compound produced by these processes is an acidic, sulfuric acid ester, probably an enol ester of leucoindigo, a body which still contains acidic, salt-forming groups which determine the water solubility of the product.
It has now been found that this process can also be used atif 4: 4'-dimethyl-6: 6'-dichloro-bis-thionaphthene indigo by converting the leuco compound of this dye into the acid ester of sulfuric acid in the manner mentioned becomes.
Example: 100 g of the dry leuco compound of 4: 4'-dimethyl-6: 6'-dichloro-bis-thio- naphthene indigo are stirred into a reaction mixture, which by slowly adding 180 g of chlorosulfone - Acid to 1200 g of dimethylaniline was obtained with cooling. It is warmed to 25 and stirred overnight at room temperature to complete the reaction.
After adding soda, the dimethylaniline is distilled off with steam.
The ester salt formed is obtained in good yield from the remaining solution by salting out.
With a very similar result it is also possible to work in such a way that chlorosulfonic acid is added dropwise with cooling to a dry suspension of the leuco dye in dimethylaniline or in another tertiary base.
The body obtained is easily soluble in water and stable both in substance and in solution. The aqueous solution is not changed by alkali; Mineral acid causes slow decomposition of the dissolved ester salt, faster in the heat.
Oxidizing agents in the presence of acids cause the dye to form rapidly and quantitatively.
In use, the substance, fiber, etc. to be dyed can be completely or locally impregnated with an aqueous solution of the new ester salt and the color can be developed quickly and smoothly by means of a suitable oxidation effect.
This derivative of 4: 4'-dimethel-6: 6'-diclilor-bis-tliionaphthenindigo thus allows colorations with this paraffin to be produced in the simplest manner, avoiding the cumbersome vat.
In the example mentioned, a halosulfonic acid, a salt of a halobensulfonic acid (such as, for example, sodium chlorosulfonate), fuming sulfuric acid or sulfuric anhydride can generally be used instead of the chlorosulfonic acid.
