Additional patent to main patent no. 102540. Process for the preparation of a derivative of dimethoxydibenzanthrone. The main patent describes a process for the production of a stable, water-soluble derivative of indigo in solid form, from which the dye can be recovered by oxidation and which is valuable for use in dyeing and printing.
This process consists in converting the leucoindigo into the acidic ester of sulfuric acid with the aid of sulfuric anhydride or substances releasing as an esterifying agent, expediently in the presence of a tertiary base such as dimethylaniline.
The compound * formed by this process is an acidic sulfuric acid ester, probably an enol ester of laukoindigo #, a body that still contains acidic salt-forming groups that make the product soluble in water.
It has now been found that this process is also applicable to Bz. 2. Bz '. 2- --dimethoxydibenza, uthron, by converting the leuco binding of this dye into the acidic ester of sellwellic acid in the aforementioned manner.
<I> Example: </I> In a mixture of 120 a 'dimethyl aniline and <B> 300 </B> cm' chlorobenzene, while cooling to about <B> 15 '</B> and stirring constantly, 54 gr Chlorosulfonic acid allowed to drop in.
After the reaction has ended, the 20 gr Bz. 2. Bz ". 2-dimetlioxydibenzanthrone prepared dry leuco bodies in dimethylaniline and stir at room temperature overnight. Two liters of water are now added to the reaction mixture and the mixture is good for hours stirred.
Afterwards it is sucked off and the dimethylaniline salt remaining on the filter (with the appropriate amount of Pottasohe added) is distilled with steam to remove dimethylaniline and chlorobenzene. The resulting solution is filtered, some unchanged dye remaining. The ester salt of dimetlioxydibenzanthrone <B> f </B> can be <B> precipitated </B> quantitatively from the filtrate by salting it out with potassium chloride.
The body obtained is soluble in water and stable both in substance and in solution. The aqueous solution is not changed by alkali, by mineral acid the dissolved ester salt decomposes slowly, and faster in the heat.
Oxidizing agents in the presence of acid cause the dye to regress.
In the application, the substance, fiber, etc. to be colored can be completely or lohally impregnated with an aqueous solution of the new ester salt and the green coloration can be developed quickly and smoothly through a suitable oxidizing effect.
This derivative of dimethoxydibenzanthrone thus makes it possible to produce colorations with this dye in the simplest possible way, avoiding the cumbersome vat.
In the example mentioned, a halosulfonic acid, a salt of a halosulfonic acid (such as, for example, sodium chlorosulfonate), fuming sulfuric acid or sulfuric anhydride can generally be used instead of the chlorosulfonic acid.
