Machine for applying liquid or pasty materials to fibrous webs. The subject of the present invention is a machine for applying liquid or pasty materials to fibrous webs. It can be designed both for printing the fibrous webs and for covering them with the materials mentioned. Varnish, glue, rubber solutions, for example, come into consideration as liquid materials, and mainly printing inks of all kinds as dough-like materials.
According to the invention, the machine has a rotatable in fixed bearings, provided with a smooth surface and used to carry the material to be applied to the fibrous web serving cylinder, means are provided to keep the material to be carried in constant contact with this application cylinder and the same to be applied to it in an evenly thick layer. The machine also has a second cylinder, which is rotatable in bearings that are adjustable with respect to the application cylinder, over which the fibrous web to be treated is guided and through which it is brought into contact with the layer on the application cylinder.
An embodiment of the machine, at the same time variants with drawing in detail, is illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawings.
. Fig. 1 is a side view of the Ma machine; Fig. 2 shows a front view and Fig. D shows a cross section of the same; 4 shows a detail, and FIGS. 5 and 6 show, in a schematic representation, two embodiments of machine units for multi-color printing, each composed of two machines.
The application cylinder A is rotatably mounted in fixed bearings a of the frame A '(FIGS. 1 to 3). Below this, a second cylinder B is rotatably mounted in bearings b . The bearings b are adjustable by means of visual dust b 'in such a way that the cylinder B can be approached or removed from the application cylinder A , depending on whether one more between the two cylinders or wants to generate less pressure.
The two cylinders A and B are coupled to one another by helical gears so that they rotate at the same circumferential speed, specifically in the direction of the arrow shown in FIG. 3.
In the support arms C attached to the frame A1, a roller D is rotatably mounted on which the web to be treated is wound. Below the roller D is a certain to wind up the fabric web, driven by the cylinder B by means of a link chain roller G ge superimposed. In order to take into account the increase in the circumference of the roll G during winding and to keep the fabric web F under constant tension, a sliding disk g (FIGS. 1 and 2) driven by the link chain is provided, which is loosely arranged on the roll G is and on the one hand against a friction disc g1 firmly connected to the roller G, on the other hand against a sliding friction disc g2 on said roller.
The disk g2 is pressed against the sliding disk g by a spring under controllable pressure.
Between the roller D and the cylinder B, several guide rollers H, H1, H2, H3 are provided to maintain the desired fabric tension so that the fabric is kept taut during the treatment. Especially in the case where the machine is used for printing, this tension of the fabric web has the purpose of bringing only the part of the fabric web raised by the pattern into contact with the ink layer on the application cylinder. This is particularly important in cases where a tacky dye is used for printing because the same has the endeavor to pull the fabric after the applicator cylinder. The guide rollers H, H1, etc. can be grooved on the circumference in a suitable manner in order to stretch the width of the fabric so that no wrinkles are ent.
A change in the tension in the longitudinal direction of the fabric web can be carried out with a weighted roller resting against the roller H3. H4 can be effected. However, any other known means can also be used for this purpose.
In contrast to the known Ma machines, in which the material to be applied is fed from a special container by means of distribution rollers to the application cylinder, means are provided in the Ma sehine shown to keep the material to be applied in constant contact with the application cylinder and the same to be applied on it in an evenly thick layer.
For this purpose, the container for the material to be applied is mainly formed by the application cylinder A and a cylinder K pressed against it (FIG. 3). The latter is rotated very slowly in relation to the cylinder A in the same direction of rotation, through the worm gear L1 - L4 (Fig. 1). It has been shown that this arrangement prevents the material to be applied from drying on the applicator cylinder. The end walls of the container are formed by plates k (FIG. 2) which are pressed against the end walls of cylinders A and h by means of screw bolts k3 from the machine frame.
Between these plates k, further plates k4 can be placed in certain intermediate spaces on the cylinders A and K, whereby several container compartments for different materials, for example different printing inks, are formed. As the cylinder A rotates, depending on the amount by which the cylinder K is pressed against the application cylinder A, a more or less strong face is uniformly distributed on the cylinder A.
The cylinder Ir is mounted in adjustable bearings 1 ', = so that an application cylinder _1 can be approached or further removed from the same.
In order to prevent material to be applied from being fed through the cylinder h 'in the direction of rotation thereof, a scraper & adjacent to the cylinder K is provided. Instead of the cylinder K, an adjustable, more or less inclined plate can be provided, which can be covered with a thin layer of celluloid for the purpose of smoother distribution of the material on its edge facing the applicator cylinder.
According to FIG. 3, a scraper M is applied to the applicator cylinder A, through which dust, particles and excess material from the cylinder A are stripped off from the web of material E. A collecting container is provided for receiving the superfluous material (Fig. 3).
If the machine described is used to print webs of material, the color is removed from cylinder A at the points where the web of material is pressed by the pattern on the cylinder B against the application cylinder, while the color is removed from the other places remains on cylinder A. This creates the reverse pattern on cylinder A of the pattern on cylinder B. This reverse pattern can be printed onto a second panel of fabric. For this purpose, as shown in Fig.
1 indicated by dash-dotted lines, instead of the scraper M, a smooth pressure cylinder N (also shown in Fig. 2) may be provided, which is stored in adjustable bearings opposite the Zy cylinder A and is preferably seen with a flexible surface ver. A second web of fabric E1 is passed over this cylinder N from a roll D1, which is pressed against the cylinder N by the cylinder N so that it is printed with the reverse pattern. A roller D2 attached above the roller D1 is used to wind up the fabric web printed on both sides. In this way, two lengths of fabric can be printed in one operation.
If the pattern to be printed on a web of fabric or the repetition of a pattern is longer than the circumference of the cylinder B, then, as indicated in FIG. 3, the pattern can be made on an endless belt P instead of on this cylinder Rope rubber, paper, celluloid, thin metal or the like, of which the pattern is then carried along, or, if the pattern consists of a point, an embroidered fabric or the like, this point etc. can itself ge to an endless band be closed.
The guide roller p shown in FIG. 5 serves to guide this endless belt P. The endless belt P (Fig.
is passed around the roller p and cylinder B, and the web to be printed then passes between the endless belt P and the applicator cylinder A. Guide roller p is arranged in bearings supported by arms p2. These arms are in turn slidably mounted on Trä like p ', which are fixed to the machine frame.
The supports p 'grip with pins p "through ungs.hlitze p' -cler arms p2, which latter can be fixed in various positions with respect to the support p 'by means of nuts screwed onto the pins.
The guide roller p can therefore be used for endless belts of different lengths. So that tape P is just passed over the cylinder B Zy, the roller p is provided with flanges p4, the mutually facing surfaces are conical.
Since the endless belt P goes loosely over the roller p, so that it sags somewhat, it will, if it should shift to one side or the other, because of its own weight on the conical Slip faces of the flanges p4 and thus remain in the center of the roller p. If the belt P should be exceptionally light, the sliding of the belt is supported by a light roller arranged above it. The flanges p4 of p can be moved and. thus adjustable to different distances from each other.
The machine is also suitable for printing fabrics on both sides, for which purpose color is then applied to cylinder B, which in this case can be an engraved cylinder. As a means for applying paint to the cylinder B, similarly to the cylinder A, a cylinder K corresponding to the cylinder K can be arranged or an adjustable, more or less inclined plate. To remove excess paint from the cylinder B, a scraper can also be provided.
The pattern that is to be printed onto the fabric web can also be cut out of paper or any other material and glued to the cylinder B or otherwise fastened. The web to be printed is pulled off the roll D by the friction between the cylinders A and B. When using ordinary printing ink (oil paint), the printed web E can be wound directly onto a roller, while when using inks for calico prints, the fabric is only passed in a known manner over drying drums.
Fig. A and 6 show a schematic Dar position each a machine unit for Erzeu supply of multicolor printing. For two-color printing, as shown, two individual machines of the type shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 are arranged one behind the other, the drive device of the machines being designed so that they are driven at the same speed. One or more guide drums arranged between the two machines serve to transfer the fabric web from the first to the second machine. These drums can be hollow and perforated so that hot air can be supplied to the fabric. Pins can also be attached to these drums to prevent the fabric web from shifting.
These pins hold the fabric by its edges or the unprinted areas and can be adjustable on the surface of the drums. If only one drum P is arranged (FIG. 5), twice the diameter of the cylinder B is expediently given to it. 6 shows three drums R, R1, R2, all of which have the same diameter and, in addition to guiding the fabric web, also serve to dry the same, for which purpose they are set up for heating with steam or the like.
The machine of Fig. 1 to 4 is primarily intended for printing webs of fabric, but it can also be used to pull over the same with varnish, glue or the like. When the machine is used in this way, there is of course no pattern on cylinder B. It is then preferably coated with an elastic material in order to obtain the elasticity required for good results. However, if the material to be covered itself is elastic, for example rubber, then the covering of the cylinder B is not necessary.
