Process for increasing the performance of four-stroke diesel engines. To increase the performance of four-stroke gas engines, it is advisable to remove the residues left in the compression chamber by flushing at the end of the exhaust stroke and to insert an additional charge under excess pressure at the end of the suction stroke. In diesel engines, in which the charging is accomplished by means of an air compressor operated by an exhaust gas turbine, the turbine and compressor are expediently as small as possible in order to save weight and costs and to take as little energy as possible from the cylinder.
If you wanted to flush both at the end of the exhaust stroke, as well as charge at the end of the intake stroke, one would have to accept an increased counterpressure in the cylinder to generate the necessary air during the exhaust stroke. With the diesel engine, because of the smaller size of the compression chamber, flushing out the residues is less useful than with the gas engine.
The proposed method for carburetor engines would be even less advantageous for diesel engines to set all the intake air through the compressor to a higher pressure than the intake pressure, since the air compressor fails even larger.
According to the method according to the invention to increase the performance of four-stroke diesel engines, supercharging air generated by a controlled member at the end of the intake stroke is let into the cylinder with the aid of an air compressor operated by an exhaust gas turbine, after its connection with the intake line has been interrupted.
The diesel engine according to the invention shows a supercharging air line coming from the air compressor, which is controlled in such a way that only on; At the end of the intake stroke, supercharging air enters the cylinder.
The drawing shows various embodiments of the four-stroke diesel engine according to the invention, for example, based on the. which in the following the method according to the invention is described for example. In Fig. 1, A. represents the inlet valve and B represents the exhaust valve of a four-stroke diesel engine. The exhaust pipe J opens into an exhaust gas turbine C, from which the expanded exhaust gases escape through pipe D.
On the shaft of the turbine C sits the impeller of a centrifugal compressor E, which sucks in air from the outside through an opening near the axis and compresses it into the charging line F. This connects to a three-way valve G, into which the suction line to the inlet valve .Cl also opens.
The three-way valve is operated in a manner not shown in such a way that it connects the inlet valve with the outside air during the larger first part of the intake stroke and only at the end of the intake stroke and approximately also at the beginning of the compression stroke with the charging line to the inlet of charging air binds.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the charging air is let in through the compressed air inlet valve H. In front of the starter valve there is a three-way cock G, which connects it alternately to the connecting line of the starting compressed air tank, which is controlled by a shut-off element L, and to the charging air line F, and it is operated again in a manner not shown. that it only lets supercharging air into the cylinder at the end of the intake (yehubes.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 3 he follows the supply of the charging air through cylinder slots N exposed by the piston at the end of the intake stroke, which are hen with the charging air line F in connection.
In order to prevent exhaust gases from penetrating into the charging line F at the end of the working stroke, a valve 31 is connected between the slots N and the charging line F, which is operated in a manner not shown so that it At the end of the working stroke, the charging air line F blocks the cylinder slots N.
