Le dessin annexé donne, à titre d'exem ple, une forme ,d'exécution de l'objet de la présente invention et quelques variantes de détails. La fig. 1 est une coupe longitudinale de cette forme d'exécution; La fig. 2 est une vue selon une coupe faite suivant la ligne 2-2 de la fig. 1; La fig. 3 est une vue en coupe faite sui vant la ligne 3--3 de la fig. 1; La fig. 4 est une vue en coupe à plus grande échelle -d'un détail;
Internal combustion engine. The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising a group of cylinders arranged in parallel around the drive shaft with their bottoms all lying in the same plane perpendicular to the shaft, and each comprising, in its bottom, a single light for the admission of the carbureted gases and the exhaust of the burnt gases, a disc-shaped member, arranged opposite said funds and provided with passages for admission,
and passage for the exhaust of gases and ignition devices being actuated by the driving shaft in such a way that carburized gases can be admitted into the cylinders, then be ignited therein and the burnt gases can escape therefrom .
The appended drawing gives, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the present invention and some variant details. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of this embodiment; Fig. 2 is a view in section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along line 3--3 of FIG. 1; Fig. 4 is a sectional view on a larger scale - of a detail;
Fig. 5 is an interior front view of a gasket plate employed between the gas distribution member and the cylinder heads; Fig. 6 is a section on a larger scale, of part of this plate; Fig. 7 is a similar section showing a variant of this plate; Fig. 8 is a variant of an organ. The engine has a housing in two parts 1 and 2, and comprises .two groups of cylinders 3, arranged in parallel around the motor shaft 8, the bottoms of the cylinders of each group being all in the same plane perpendicular to the 'tree.
The two parts of the crankcase are joined to each other by bolts 5 passing through peripheral flanges 6 formed on the adjacent sides of the two parts of the crankcase and in such a way that the corresponding cylinders of the two groups are kept in alignment. . The motor shaft 8, arranged in the center of the housing, rotates in bearings 9 and 10 provided in the housing. In the middle of this shaft 8 is provided a journal 12, the axial line of which; intersects the axial line of the shaft at an acute angle.
On this journal 12 can turn a disc 13 connected by members 14, with the various pistons, so that due to the arrangement of the disc 13 on the journal 12, the reciprocating movements of the pistons 4 will communicate to the disc 13 a movement producing the rotation of the motor shaft 8.
Each cylinder has in its bottom a single light 16 serving both for the admission and the exhaust. The lights of the various cylinders are arranged circularly around the drive shaft 8 and are in alignment with the exhaust openings 17 in the ends 18 of the crankcase parts.
For the admission of carburized gases into the cylinders and the exhaust of the burnt gases, is arranged in front of the slots 16 of the cylinders and on each side of the engine a member 20. This member 20, consisting of a disc, is interposed between the cylinder heads and the bottom 18 of the crankcase. The members 20 are actuated by the motor shaft in such a way. turn in the recesses made in the engine crankcase where they are housed and so as to allow the admission of fuel gases and the exhaust of burnt gases.
These members 20 are circular in shape and carry at their center an opening intended to receive a sleeve 26 integral with a toothed pinion 2'8, fixed to the .distributor by means of a series of rivets 29. These pinions 28 pivot on eccentric journals 30 provided on the motor shaft 8. They are in gear relation with rings 31 with internal teeth, fixed to the ends of parts 1 and 2 of the casing and concentrically to the motor shaft 8.
The eccentric journals 30 are arranged so that their axes are placed on either side of the axis of the motor shaft. Pipes 32, intended for the admis sion of the carburized gases into the cylinders, are in communication with the funds 18 and communicate continuously, through the intermediary of annular pockets 33 made in the funds 18, with. central annular openings 34 made in the organs 20. These members forming distributors are provided with inlet channels 35, through both annular openings 34 and terminating on the inner faces of the members 20.
The members 20 also have wise exhaust passages 36, passing through them completely,, arranged between the intake channels 35.
The exhaust passages 36 are seen as a gasket 37 intended to prevent the hot gases from being directly in contact with the body of the member 20 and thereby heating it; on the other hand, each passage 36 is divided by one or more partitions 37 'arranged radially and which, when the member 20 rotates, confine the exhaust gases passing through these passages in a small part of the passage and prevent swirling. exhaust gases.
The motor shown, comprising seven cylinders 3 at each end, has three sets of lights 35 and 36 in each member 20, rotating in the opposite direction to. that of the motor shaft 8 and at a speed equal to one sixth of that of this shaft.
The part of a member 20 in which is placed an intake channel 35 passes opposite the lumen 16 of a cylinder 3, when the piston 4 of this cylinder performs its. suction stroke; the part of the member 20 in which is placed an exhaust passage 36 is placed opposite the port 16 of a cylinder 3 during a stroke in the opposite direction of the piston 4, a full part -of the organ 20 will be facing the light 16 during the compression time and another solid part of the member 20 will be facing the light 16 during the relaxation time.
The parts of the member 20, intermediate between an .d'admission passage and an exhaust passage will be presented against the light 16 at the time. piston 4 has completed the compression stroke, the compressed carburized gas being ready to be ignited; For this purpose, the spark plugs 38 have been placed in these parts of the members 20; one of the terminals of each spark plug is earthed by the frame of the motor and the other terminal consists of a brush 39 which as a result of the movement of the member 20 is capable of being brought at the desired moment in relation to a contact 40, supported by an insulating part 41, fixed in the housing in a recess concentric with the motor shaft 8.
The terminals of the source of electricity intended for the operation of the ignition devices are connected with the contact 40 and to the engine crankcase, so that the circuit will be closed by the spark plugs when the contacts 39 of the spark plugs will come into contact with contact 40.
The electrodes of the spark plugs are placed in openings 42 made through the walls so as to be able to communicate with the lights 16 of the cylinders.
The members 20 rotate in recesses made in the motor housing and rest against trim plates 45 which fit into the bases of the recesses. Each of these trim plates 45 carries at its periphery notches 46 of the tines to receive ears 47 distributed around the periphery of the recess, in order to prevent the plates from turning. In the center of each gasket plate is made an opening 48, through which passes the motor shaft and: around üette opening are arranged circularly several openings 49 corresponding to the different slots 16, cylinders.
The outer face of plate 45 is perfectly smooth to fit against the face of member 20, and is held in an airtight manner against member 20 by means of an annular flange 58. its spring, formed around the opening 48 and extending anteriorly to come to rest on the wall 21. This flange constitutes a sort of accordion, that is to say it has annular channels. 60 deep, which are cut in the flange alternately from the outside and from the inside, the inner and outer channels being offset relative to each other.
Thanks to this arrangement, the flange is elastic in the axial direction and elastically maintains the plate against the distributor without great friction, it constitutes a tight seal preventing leaks.
Organs 61, similar in construction to the flange 58, and facilitating the latter to apply the plate 45 against the member 20, are arranged around each of the or vertures 49 and apply around the lights 16. These organs 61 are provided with annular caulks 60 which are cut alternately from the inside and the outside and which overlap with respect to each other in order to give flexibility in the positive and in order to allow it to expand or contract in the axial direction.
Due to the fact that the internal channels of the organs 61 open into passages in which the gases are confined under pressure, when the carburized gases are ignited, it follows that the pressure then causes the expansion of the members 61 and in a manner sufficient to clamp the plate 45 against the or gane 20, which has the effect of preventing any leakage.
Fig. 7 shows a trim plate in which annular channels 65 are formed in plate 45 within apertures 49, producing flexible diaphragms on opposite sides which will be pushed apart by the pressure of the gases exerted in the channels to. make watertight joints at the time of explosions.
Another construction is shown in FIG. 8 in which the elastic part is constituted by an annularly, deeply corrugated tube. This device can be established independently of the plate 45.
