ignition system for explosion engines. M The subject of the invention is a device for igniting explosion engines supplied with heavy hydrocarbons, or other low volatile fuels.
The device according to the invention comprises a low-capacity chamber in communication with the compression chamber of the cylinder and provided with a valve connected to a carburetor supplying it with fuel. 'a very flammable mixture of air and a very volatile liquid fuel, as well as a spark plug connected to the magneto of the engine, the cylinder retaining its devices being mounted on the cylinder head of the niotor.
Thanks to this device, which can be applied to any type of single-cylinder or multi-cylinder engine, it is possible to cause the load to deflagrate under conditions such as that the engine can be supplied with low volatility fuel, gasoline, petroleum, fuel oil or any other liquid fuel, or even with lean gas under good conditions from the point of view of efficiency.
An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown to by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 shows in side elevation, part in section, an engine fitted with the ignition device; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the positive ignition -dis.
It has been assumed in the example shown that. the device was mounted on the engine cylinder head and screwed into the hole in the intake valve cap. From a practical point of view, this arrangement obviously offers great advantages since it allows the application of the device to any motor, without special machining, but it goes without saying that it can be achieved in a completely different way according to the indications provided by the experiment, The ignition device comprises a compression and explosion chamber 1, of low capacity; this capacity was equal, during tests of the device, to 1 / 4o of the cylinder capacity and gave excellent results.
This chamber may be provided beforehand with a cooling jacket 2. The device has a threaded boss 3 which allows it to be mounted on the cylinder head 9 of the engine. boss and this thread being of diameter and of pitch corresponding to those of the usual intake valve plugs. The upper part of the apparatus carries a valve box in which an automatic valve 4 is arranged and which is in communication, by the pipe 5, with any carburetor 10, </ B > fueled with gasoline or other highly volatile liquid fuel.
The discharge port 6 which opens into the compression chamber 11 of the engine, may affect, as shown, a conical or other favorable shape to the flow of fluid so as to to determine significant stirring in the compression chamber. The spark plug 8 is mounted in chamber 1 as shown.
During the aspiration of the engine, at the same time as the piston calls for a load of heavy fuel (petroleum, fuel oil or other) in the compression chamber Il of the engine supplied by the suitably adjusted ordinary carburettor , the depression which occurs in the chamber 1 determines the admission of a regulated quantity, but not very important, of very combustible mixture, for example, gasoline and air, provided by the special of ignition system carburetor. When the explosion occurs in chamber 1, it causes ignition of the load in the engine compression chamber under the effect, on the one hand, of the increase in pressure in this room and, on the other hand, of the sudden rise in temperature.
The adaptation of this device to an engine may require a variation in the capacity of the compression chamber thereof, so as to compensate for the modification made by the engine. addition of the additional chamber 1. This variation could be made either by modifying the valve plugs or in any other way.
The device described could also be mounted in the place of a spark plug or provided in the construction of the engine.
