"IGNITION SYSTEM FOR HIGH-COMPRESSION EXPLOSION ENGINE" The ignition of gas mixtures in internal combustion engines, supplied by gasifiers, town gas or the like, presents serious difficulties when the compression in the combustion chamber of the engine exceeds a certain rate.

This ignition difficulty arises from the fact that the strong compression of the gas mixture decreases and even prevents the bursting of the high voltage electric spark, between the electrodes of the spark plugs in use on engines. explosion.

We tried to obviate this drawback by making special spark plugs or self-induction spark breakers for the ignition of gas mixtures - in very high compression engines, but these special devices, if they have a certain advantage compared to common spark plug ignition systems, become inoperative when compression in engines exceeds ratios of l - 10, 1 - 11.

The present invention relates to means intended to produce the ignition of gas mixtures in internal combustion engines, with very high compression, supplied by gasifiers, town gas or any other explosive gas.

According to the invention, is injected, at the appropriate time, into the gas mixture, subjected to high compression and brought to high temperature in the. combustion chamber of the engine, a very small quantity of liquid capable of igniting on contact with said gas mixture, which has a high oxygen content, causing the mixture to ignite and explode.

The injected liquid may be fuel oil, palm oil or paraffin oil or other mineral or vegetable oils having the required inflammatory qualities.

This ignition system is particularly suitable when it is desired to supply a diesel type engine, using a gasifier.

In such an installation, the control of the injection pump with which the engine is fitted can be made independent of the gas intake control and adjusted so as to invariably deliver, while the engine is running, the strict minimum of fuel. liquid necessary for gas ignition. the pump may possibly be fitted with a control allowing its flow to be temporarily modified, during cold starts, while the gasifier is being started up or to promote resumption after a prolonged stoppage of the engine.

In engines supplied with relatively lean gases, it will be easy, thanks to the invention, to increase the calorific value of the gas mixture by judicious adjustment of the quantity of flammable liquid injected.
