Title: ANTI-DIARRHE'A COMPOSITION
Inventor: Habib Choudry BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIO~
5 Field of the invention The present invention relates to an anti-diarrhea, anti-dysentery and anti-cramp composition. More particularly it relates to a composition containing a therapeutically ef f ective amount of powder of curcuma amada and bees wax.
Descri~tion of the PriQr Art Diarrhea i8 one of the great number of diseases which af f ect young and adult poplllation . Accordingly various types of drug6 have been developed and applied to treat diarrhea. The drugs 15 used to cure diarrhea, dy6entery and cramps have associated side ef f ects .
In view of the foregoing, there has and continues to be a need for the development of a product capable of curing diarrhea, 20 dysentery and cramps symptoms with no side effects.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of this invention to provide an effective anti-diarrhea, anti-dysent~ry and anti-cramps composition, 25 especially diarrhea caused by travel or in places where clean drinking water is not available.
~ ` 2136~6~
Accordingly one aspect of this invention provides an anti-diarrhea, anti-dysentery and anti-cramp, composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of curcuma amada powder together with bees ~ax.
The present invention also provides that therapeutically ef f ective amount of extract of curcuma amada cures diarrhea, dysentery and cramps.
Further features of the invention will be described or will become apparent in the course of the following detailed description .
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED E~$BODI~ENT
In order that the invention may be more clearly understood, the preferred embodiment thereof will now be described in detail by way of example.
As used throughout this specification, the term "composition" refers to a ~~egime of treatment as regards diarrhea and not necessarily to a single unit dosage. Such a composition may comprise one or more units containing the same or different active ingredients adminis1 rable to an individual for the purpose 25 of treating diarrhea, dysentery and cramps. Herein, anti-diarrhea 2136~ 6~
composition refer6 to a composition administrable to a patient for the purpose of treating di~rrhea, dysentery and cramps in that individual .
The term "therapeutically effective amount" with respect to the present invention, means a pharmaceutically acceptable amount to treat diarrhea. The term "pharmaceutically acceptable"
as used throughout this specification means non-toxic and applies to compositions suitable for administration to an individual.
The term "pharmaceutically acceptable excipient" refers to those excipients normal Ly employed in pharmaceutical compositions intended for oral administration. For example, excipient may be solid or liquid and include the non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable carriers such as glucose, lactose, dextrose, sucrose, mannitol, sorbitol, gelatine, malt, silica gel, magnesium carbonate, sodium chloride, talc, dried skim milk, glycerol, propylene, glycol, water, ethanol and the like.
Preferably the pharmaceutically acceptable ~r;ri~nt is water.
~ixture of one or more excipients may also be used.
The method to obtain extract f rom curcuma amada cannot be by no means limited to any one method. However, extract obtained from curcuma-amada in conjllnction with pharmaceutical excipient will be used in different ~veight or amount in the treatment of 21361B~
diarrhea, dysentery and cramps, depending on the strength of the extract and also the age and weight of the patient i.e. 5 mg to 50 mg dose!
Examp l e In the preparati~n, root of curcuma amada (also called mango ginger and known as amb-haldi in Urdu language) is ground into powder and bees wax melted. Then 350 mg of powder of curcuma amada and 150 mg of bees wax were combined and then were adapted for oral administration on a 36 year, 140 lb. male 6uffering from diarrhea and stomach cramps. The composition was administered again after every bowel mo-~ement to a maximum of 4 times a day.
After which the symptoms oE diarrhea and cramps were relieved. The treated individual had no complaint of diarrhea nor did he complain of any unpleasant feelings related thereto.
It i8 to be noted that present invention is by no means limited to the above example.
It will be appreciated that the above description related to the preferred embodiment by way of example only. Many variations on the invention will be obvious to those knowledgeable in the field, and such obvious variations are within the scope of the invention as described and claimed, whether or not expressly 2 5 des cribed .
