Abstract

Cr is included in an Al-Si alloy plating layer formed on the steel sheet by hot-dip coating, to improve corrosion and heat resistance. A Cr layer preformed on the steel sheet by vapor deposition, electroplating or the like is used as a Cr source to the plating layer. When the surface of the Cr layer is activated by plasma or ion beam etching before the introduction of the steel sheet into a coating bath, the Cr layer shows good wettability to a coating metal. A plating layer L formed on the steel substrate S
has a multi-layered structure composed of the first sub-layer L1 of Cr, the second sub-layer L2 of a Cr-Al-Si alloy and the third sub-layer L3 of an Al-Si-Cr alloy. Since the plating layer L contains Cr, an obtained product is remarkably improved in corrosion and heat resistance as compared with a conventional Al-Si- alloy-coated steel sheet.
