Z045 ~ 19 The present invention relates to the outline of a manhole cover. More precisely, the invention is relates to a pavement protector for use in a manhole, and intended on the one hand for rest on an underground vertical pipe and on the other hand to receive a manhole cover. The device is formed of Ull material, preferably rubber, capable absorb and absorb the shocks caused by traffic.
To have access to public utilities we normally use what is agreed to call manholes. These devices are good known and are normally made of cast iron. they have however the disadvantage of contributing to the damage of the pavement around them and being quite expensive.
In an effort to obtain a device that better protects the pavement I developed the article described in my Canadian Patent No. 1,270,138. However, this device has proven to be too expensive although very effective. It exists therefore a need to produce an arrangement which ensures protection to pavement and underground pipes all by being cheap.
In order to overcome the difficulties related to devices currently in use, I have developed a pavement guard for use in a manhole, which device is intended on the one hand for rest on an underground vertical pipe and on the other hand to receive a manhole cover. This device is formed of a material generally capable of cushioning and absorb shocks caused by road traffic and is characterized in that it comprises a part Z () 45Xl9 cylindrical with a wall thick enough to make it rigid while being able to absorb and absorb said shocks and cons ~ itue an upper face in the shape of a crown with internal and external edges, as well as a shaped base crown with internal and external edges, said part cylindrical with an inner wall and a wall external, a notch formed at the internal edge of the upper face so as to be able to receive said cover, a flange in downward projection by relative to the internal edge of said base, said flange fitting exactly inside said vertical pipe in upper part of the latter, and a means provided on the outer wall of said cylindrical part ensuring that a covering constituting the roadway is associated with said medium by hardening, causing said device is generally irremovable with respect to said recovery.
For example, the cylindrical part has a thickness exactly corresponding to the thickness of the wall of the pipe increased by the thickness of the flange of so that the outer wall is flush with the outside of the pipe, the flange forming a joint with the base, said joint resting on an internal edge of said pipe.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the flange is tapered down so that it fits with play in the upper part of the pipe.
According to another preferred embodiment, the means is constituted by a peripheral cavity, in particular a annular bottom pipe, preferably in arc of circle, practiced on the external wall of the part cylindrical, in which the overlap is embedded.
~ 0 ~ 5; ~ 1 ~
The cylindrical part is preferably made made of rubber, especially shredded rubber of a binding agent and formed by molding. The rubber shredded normally comes from used tires, although can also use any other source of rubber.
The invention will now be described in reference to the annexed drawings given for simple reasons illustrati ~ but without limitation, and in which FIG ~ RE 1 is a perspective of a device protector according to the present invention; and FIG ~ RE 2 is a partial section of a hole of man incorporating a protective device according to The invention.
Now referring to the drawings, we will see that the invention illustrated relates to a manhole 1. De As is known, the manhole 1 comprises a pipe 3, the diameter is sufficient to allow a maneuver to access public utilities, in particular conduits residual water, electrical or other installations.
A cylindrical piece of which several models are well known in the art, overcomes pipe 3 up to ground level, and we close it with a cover 5 usually made of cast iron.
The invention is characterized precisely by a new concept of cylindrical part illustrated in 7, constituting a protective device for the carriageway and intended on the one hand to rest on the vertical pipe underground 3 and secondly to receive the hole cover 5. To constitute an effective protection of the pavement, the cylindrical part 7 must be formed into a 20 ~ 5 ~ 19 material generally capable of cushioning and absorbing shocks caused by road traffic, especially in the main arteries of a city.
As seen in the drawings, the coin cylindrical 7 must have a thickness a sufficient for the make it rigid while being able to absorb and absorb shocks mentioned above. In other words, from the wall external to the internal wall, the cylindrical part has a thickness a. We have in practice manufactured parts 7 including the thickness is about 23 centimeters, giving complete satisfaction. It is understood that this dimension can vary as needed, and that the only requirements are that the manufacturing costs are reasonable and that its Ability to absorb and absorb shocks is ensured.
For example, we could manufacture parts 7 of which the thickness varies between 15 and 30 centimeters and which are completely acceptable.
The cylindrical part 7 also has a face upper 9 in the shape of a crown with an internal edge ll 'and an external edge 13. The lower part of the part cylindrical is constituted by a base 15 which also is in the shape of a crown and has an internal edge 17 as well as an external edge 19. The cylindrical part 7 shows an internal wall 21 as well as an external wall 23.
~ u level of the internal upper edge ll on finds a notch 25 in the form of a square well known in the technique allowing the cylindrical part 7 to receive cover 5 as seen in Figure 1 of drawings. At the bottom of the cylindrical part, there there is a flange 27 which fits exactly at inside the vertical pipe 3, at the top of this Z0452 ~ 9 latest. More specifically, it will be seen that the collar 21 forms a joint 29 with the base 15 and that this joint 29 rests exactly on the internal edge 31 of pipe 3. We moreover sees that the cylindrical part 7 has a thickness a which corresponds exactly to the thickness of the wall of the pipe, increased by the thickness of the flange 21 to level of the base 15 of the cylindrical piece 7. In addition, note that the flange 27 is tapered downwards which allows to insert it with a certain game in the part top of hose 3.
Finally, it is essential that recovery constituting the roadway, at the level of the cylindrical part, come and anchor in it so that the room cylindrical is normally irremovable with respect to the pavement. To do this, in the illustrated model, we have provided an arc-shaped peripheral pipeline of circle, on the external wall 23 of the cylindrical part 7.
Of course, we could just as easily provide any means anchor provided that the expected result is the same.
~ The nature of the component material cylindrical is left to the choice of the manufacturer. In practice, rubber is considered an ideal material.
However, to lower the cost price, it is suggested to make this part by molding using scrap tires of ~ clicked to which a binding agent is added.
The device according to the present invention is particularly well suited to freezing and thawing conditions that we find in cold countries. Indeed, we will realize that no matter the surface movements of the soil resulting from freezing and thawing, the cylindrical part is will move with the surface covering, without changing the structure of the assembly constituted by the manhole, nor affect the area surrounding the device. In others terms, there is no relative movement between the pad and the cylindrical part, which prevents cracks or cracks form all around said piece.
