"PROCESSOS PARA PREPARAR UM PRODUTO DE TABACO E PARA REDUZIR A CONCENTRAçãO DE PELO MENOS UM COMPOSTO FENóLICO DE UM MATERIAL DE TABACO, USOS DE UMA ENZIMA OXIDANTE, DE UMA LACASE E UMA PROTEASE, MATERIAL DE TABACO, E, PRODUTO DE TABACO MODIFICADO". Processo para preparar tabaco, compreendendo as etapas de tratar um material de tabaco com uma enzima exidante de fenol, tal como uma lacase. Produto de tabaco aperfeiçoado, tendo uma quantidade reduzida de compostos fenólicos. Este é uma alternativa ou um suplemento para um processo em que os compostos fenólicos são adsorvidos sobre a polivinilpolipirrolidona (PVPP) veículo insolúvel. Nas versões preferidas, o processo inclui etapas adicionais de remover o composto fenólico oxidado, adicionar adsorventes tais como bentonita; remover e/ou inativar a enzima; e concentrar o extrato. As enzimas oxidantes de fenol preferidas são peroxidases e lacases. O extrato assim tratado é vantajosamente recombinado com o resíduo de tabaco e mais processado para fornecer um artigo de tabaco para fumar.
