Composições aquosas tendo propriedades reológicas vantajosas, preferivelmente incluindo qualquer tensão de rendimento acentuada, viscosidade acentuada, e/ou retenção de água acentuada, são descritas. Incluídas são composições de baixa viscosidade tendo alta tensão de rendimento. A presente invenção também refere-se a processos para preparar e usar as composições. Composições da presente invenção compreendem composições aquosas de um polímero tendo uma carga iónica de rede, e um promotor de viscosidade tendo uma carga iónica de rede oposta. Composições podem também compreender um agende moderador para prevenir precipitação e/ou gelação.
