Patente de Invenção:<B>ESPESSAMENTO DE SUSPENSõES MINERAIS AQUOSAS''<D>.Processo de espessamento de uma suspensão aquosa de sólidos minerais através de sedimentação compreendendo a adição à suspensão de um floculante polimérico ligado em ponte aniónico solúvel em água tendo uma viscosidade intrínseca de pelo menos 5 dl/g e um floculante polimérico catiónico solúvel em água, permitindo-se que os sólidos se assentem sob a gravidade de modo a formar uma fração inferior de underflow contendo uma concentração de sólidos maior do que aquela da suspensão e uma fração superior de overflow contendo uma concentração de sólidos menor do que aquela da suspensão e removendo-se a fração de underflow, caracterizado pelo fato de os floculantes aniónico e catiónico serem adicionados à suspensão como uma composição aquosa formada através de mistura de 1 parte em peso do floculante polimérico catiónico com 2 a 99 partes em peso, do floculante polimérico aniónico e água suficiente para proporcionar uma concentração total de polímero abaixo de 5% por peso e sob condições através das quais a precipitação contra-iónica pode ocorrer e, na composição aquosa, substancialmente todo o floculante polimérico aniónico não é precipitado pelo floculante polimérico catiónico que está em solução. Uma vantagem da invenção é que os floculantes não estão restritos a considerações de compatibilidade e, assim, não é necessário (como na maioria da técnica anterior) usar, por exemplo, floculantes aniónicos isentos de ácido ou catiónicos isentos de base em uma tentativa de minimizar a incompatibilidade e, não é necessário adicionar ácido, sal ou outros aditivos de forma a minimizar a incompatibilidade.
