Abstract
"ACOPLAMENTO DE POLìMERO VINIL AROMáTICO E ESPUMAS". A invenção inclui um processo compreendendo as etapas de (a) formar uma mistura de (a) um polímero vinil aromático e (b) uma quantidade acopladora de pelo menos uma poli (sulfonil azida); (2) introduzir o polímero vinil aromático ou a mistura em um dispositivo processador de fundido; (3) fundir o polímero vinil aromático ou mistura, e em seguida (4) expor a mistura a uma temperatura, daqui por diante, temperatura de processamento de fundido, suficiente para resultar em acoplamento do polímero vinil aromático. A invenção também inclui um processo para aumentar o peso molecular de um polímero vinil aromático aquecendo uma mistura de pelo menos um polímero vinil aromático e uma quantidade acopladora de pelo menos uma poli (sulfonil azida). Alternativamente a invenção é um processo compreendendo as etapas de (1) formar, sob uma primeira pressão, uma mistura de um polímero vinil aromático, um agente de sopro, e pelo menos uma poli (sulfonil azida), com a mistura a uma temperatura na qual a viscosidade da mistura seja suficiente para reter o agente de sopro quando a mistura for deixada expandir: (2) extrudar a mistura em uma zona de retenção mantida a uma temperatura e uma segunda pressão que não permitam à mistura espumar, a zona de retenção tendo uma matriz de saída definindo um orifício abrindo-se para uma zona de uma terceira pressão mais baixa que a primeira e segunda pressões na qual a mistura espuma, e uma porta abrível fechando o orifício da matriz; (3) periodicamente abrir a porta; (4) substancialmente concorrentemente aplicar pressão mecânica por um êmbolo móvel sobre a mistura para ejetar a mistura da zona de retenção através do orifício de matriz para dentro da zona de terceira pressão, a uma taxa maior que aquela na qual ocorra substancial espumação no orifício de matriz e menor que aquela na qual substanciais irregularidades na área ou formato de seção transversal ocorra; e (5) permitir que a mistura ejetada se expanda sem restrição em pelo menos uma dimensão para produzir um corpo celular termoplástico alongado.
