São fornecidos: um polipeptídeo com atividade de 3-metil-2-oxobutanoato hidroximetiltransferase; um microrganismo com atividade aumentada de 3-metil-2-oxobutanoato hidroximetiltransferase; uma composição para produzir ácido pantotênico e/ou ácido pantoico, compreendendo o polipeptídeo e/ou o microrganismo e um método de produção de ácido pantotênico e/ou ácido pantoico compreendendo uma etapa para a cultura do microrganismo.
