Abstract

"MéTODOS PARA REDUZIR O PESO MOLECULAR DE UMA RESINA DE POLIESTER ADEQUADA PARA FIAçãO E PARA DIMINUIR O PESO MOLECULAR DE POLIéSTER". A presente invenção refere-se a um processo para preparar um polímero de peso molecular menor a partir de uma pastilha de matéria-prima de peso molecular maior no estado sólido. Em particular, o peso molecular de uma resina industrial ou de uma resina de garrafa é reduzido em uma maneira controlada pela introdução de etileno glicol. Se a resina industrial for para ser empregada para fibras industriais, o etileno glicol poderá ser adicionado na extrusora para fiação da fibra industrial. Por outro lado, devendo ser usada a pastilha de peso molecular alto para resina de garrafa, o peso molecular pode ser reduzido pela introdução de etileno glicol na extrusora para moldagem por injeção de pré-formas de um peso molecular menor. A razão de etileno glicol polímero é determinada pela redução no peso molecular que é requerida. A resina preferida é polímero ou copolímero de poliéster, e especialmente poli(tereftalato de etileno) (PET). A presente invenção compreende um processo para reduzir o peso molecular de uma resina matéria-prima de poliéster no estado sólido compreendendo obter resina de poliéster possuindo uma IV maior do que cerca de 0,8 dL/g; e misturar etileno glicol com o citado poliéster no qual o citado etileno glicol está presente em uma quantidade estequiométrica para reduzir a IV para o nível requerido.
